The location right near Swargadwar is pretty smart if you think about it, because you’re close enough to the main Jagannath Temple action without being right in the thick of all that chaos (and trust me, during festival season, that chaos is real).

The thing that struck me most was how they’ve managed to create this sort of tropical bubble in what’s honestly a pretty gritty pilgrimage town. I mean, step outside and you’re immediately back in the dust and rickshaw horns of Puri, but inside there’s this whole coconut palm aesthetic that actually works – not in a cheesy resort way, but more like someone put some thought into it. The rooms are solid, nothing revolutionary but properly maintained, and the AC actually keeps up with the humidity, which is saying something if you’ve spent any time on the Odisha coast. What I really appreciated was the attention to details like having enough outlets near the bed and blackout curtains that actually block out the early morning temple bells (though honestly, those bells kind of grow on you after a while).

The 7.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s definitely a nice place, but there are little things that keep it from being exceptional. The restaurant food is decent but plays it pretty safe, and the staff, while friendly, sometimes seems overwhelmed during peak pilgrimage times. But here’s what makes it work: the pool area is genuinely relaxing after a day of temple visits and beach walks, and they understand that most guests are here for the spiritual experience, not just a luxury getaway. The beach is walkable from here, though I’d recommend heading toward the lighthouse area rather than straight out front where it gets pretty crowded. If you’re planning to visit during Rath Yatra or any major festival, book way ahead – and honestly, expect everything in Puri to be a bit more hectic then. For what it is and where it is, The Hans Coco Palms delivers a comfortable base for exploring one of India’s most important pilgrimage sites, with just enough polish to make you feel like you’re treating yourself well.
