The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama – I mean, another luxury hotel in Minato Mirai, right? But the moment you step through those doors, you realize this place is doing something different. The lobby has this almost zen-like quality that immediately makes you forget you’re in the middle of one of Japan’s busiest waterfront districts. There’s something about the way natural light filters through their massive windows that just… works, you know?
What really got me was the location – and I don’t mean that in the typical “convenient location” way travel sites always say. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Cosmo World (you can actually see the giant Ferris wheel from some of the upper floors), but somehow the hotel feels completely insulated from all that tourist chaos. I spent a lot of time exploring the Minato Mirai area, and having this quiet sanctuary to return to each evening made all the difference. The concierge team actually knows their stuff too – they pointed me toward this incredible ramen spot in nearby Noge that I never would’ve found otherwise, tucked away in an alley most tourists never venture down.
The rooms themselves are spacious by Japanese standards, which anyone who’s stayed in Tokyo hotels will appreciate. I had a harbor view room on the 15th floor, and honestly, watching the ships come and go while having my morning coffee became this weird little ritual I looked forward to. The soundproofing is excellent – even with all the activity down at the port and the nearby convention center, nights were surprisingly peaceful. One thing that struck me was how thoughtfully everything was designed. The bathroom alone probably has more square footage than some entire hotel rooms I’ve stayed in around Asia. Check-in was smooth (they actually remembered my name throughout the stay, which is rarer than it should be), and the staff has that perfect balance of attentive without being hovering – they seem to genuinely anticipate what you need before you ask for it. The 9.0 rating makes complete sense once you’re there. It’s not just about the luxury touches, though those are certainly present. It’s more about how the whole experience feels effortless, from the moment you arrive until you’re reluctantly checking out.

Amazing service and beautiful hotel and the japanese restaurant was impressive
What could be improved: Extra charge for swimming pool
We had one night there combined with a birthday celebration. We enjoyed the spacious room with a view as well as the proximity to the Rinko park. The dinner that night was top-notch, both from eh fold selection and cozy setting in the private room....
The Hotel is a gold standard in luxury, from the staff to the rooms. I loved the association to the Kahala Hotel in Hawaii and it brought so much nostalgia since I am from Hawaii and used to work at the Kahala resort when it was still a Mandarin...
Large and luxurious rooms, a spectacular view of the bay, a very kind staff with a high sense of service even compared to Japan

Big hotel with many attractions like swimming pool and small public bath. Staff is educated very well. They communicate with microphone or something that they share where we should go to or try to maximise the utilisation. Small public bath warmed us...
Close to the train
What could be improved: Hawaiian themed hotel no Hawaiian food
