The Kimaya – By the Sea Overview
Honestly, when I first pulled up to The Kimaya, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the address in Saunta Vaddo sounds pretty local, and you know how sometimes these 5-star places can feel a bit stuffy. But this one actually gets it right. It’s tucked into this quieter part of Baga where you’re not dealing with the chaos of the main beach strip, but you can still walk to all the action when you want it. The property itself has this understated elegance thing going on – think clean lines and sea-inspired design without going overboard with the nautical theme that so many coastal hotels seem to love.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to create these little pockets of calm throughout the place. The pool area, for instance, doesn’t feel like you’re swimming in a fishbowl with everyone watching – there are these nice shaded spots where you can actually read a book without feeling on display. And speaking of the sea part of their name, while you’re not directly on the beach, the proximity to Baga Beach means you get that salt air smell and the sound of waves if you listen for it, especially in the evening when things quiet down. The rooms are solid – I mean, you’re getting what you’d expect from a well-run 5-star property, but there’s attention to detail that suggests someone actually thinks about what travelers need. Good water pressure (crucial in Goa), blackout curtains that work, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine.
The location really is the sweet spot here – you’re close enough to Calangute that you can explore both beaches easily, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with the late-night party noise that can be… well, a lot. I noticed the staff genuinely knows the area, which makes a difference when you want recommendations that aren’t just the tourist traps. They pointed me toward this little spice market that I never would have found otherwise. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the flashiest resort in Goa, but it delivers consistently on the things that matter. Check-in was smooth, parking isn’t a nightmare (trust me, this matters more than you think in busy Goa), and the whole place just feels like they’ve figured out how to balance that resort experience with being genuinely welcoming rather than performatively so.
Experience exceptional luxury healing hotels that provide world-class accommodations alongside cutting-edge wellness facilities, creating sanctuaries where guests can focus on their health and well-being.
