You know what struck me first about The Lodge at Spruce Peak? It’s actually right there on Mountain Road – not tucked away somewhere you need GPS to find – but it doesn’t feel like you’re staying next to traffic. I mean, you’re literally at the base of Stowe Mountain Resort, so when I say convenient, I’m talking about rolling out of bed and being on the slopes in minutes, not the usual “short drive to skiing” nonsense most places claim. The whole property has this authentic Vermont lodge vibe that doesn’t feel forced or theme-park-ish. Honestly, the stone and timber architecture fits so naturally into the landscape that it looks like it’s been there for decades, even though it’s obviously much newer than that.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between rustic mountain charm and actually having everything work properly. The rooms – well, they’re more like suites really – have full kitchens with granite countertops and decent appliances, which saves you from eating every single meal out (and trust me, dining in Stowe adds up fast). The fireplaces aren’t just for show either; they actually throw real heat, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during Vermont’s ridiculous winters. I stayed in February and could hear the wind howling outside, but inside it was perfectly warm and quiet. The beds are those pillow-top situations that you sink into after a long day on the mountain, and the bathrooms have soaking tubs that fit an actual adult human being – not always a given at ski resorts.

The location thing is huge here, but not just for skiing. You’re about ten minutes from Stowe village if you want to wander around the shops or grab dinner at Doc Ponds (locals will know what I’m talking about), but you’re also right there for summer activities too. People don’t always think about Stowe in warm weather, but the hiking and mountain biking are actually incredible – the resort runs the gondola year-round, so you can ride up and hike down if you’re feeling lazy like I was. The pool area gets busy during peak times, obviously, but early morning or late afternoon you can usually find a decent spot. Parking is included and plentiful, which sounds boring but you’ll appreciate it when you see what some other places in town charge for it. Check-in was smooth, staff knows their stuff about local conditions and restaurant recommendations. It’s not cheap – this is Stowe, after all – but you’re getting legitimate luxury without the pretentious attitude that sometimes comes with it. If you’re doing a proper Vermont mountain getaway and want to feel like you’re staying somewhere special without roughing it, this place delivers.
