The Luigans Spa and Resort Overview
You know what struck me first about The Luigans? It’s this unexpectedly sleek glass tower sitting right on Hakata Bay, and I mean *right* on the water – you can practically touch the waves from some of the lower floors. Most people stick to central Fukuoka or the Tenjin area, but honestly, being out here in Saitozaki gives you this whole different perspective of the city. The drive from Hakata Station takes maybe 20 minutes (parking’s free, which is a relief), and suddenly you’re in this quiet waterfront zone where the only sounds are seagulls and the occasional ferry heading to the islands.
The spa here is actually why most people come – it’s got this whole thalassotherapy thing going on with seawater treatments, and the onsen baths look straight out onto the bay. I spent way too much time in those infinity pools on the upper floors, especially around sunset when the water turns all golden and you can see the lights starting to flicker on across Fukuoka. The rooms are proper luxury without being stuffy about it – lots of natural wood and those floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re floating above the water. Fair warning though, if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the marina side because there’s some early morning boat activity. The restaurant situation is solid too, with this French place that sources local Kyushu ingredients (the Saga beef is ridiculous), plus a more casual spot where you can grab decent sushi while watching the ferries come and go.
Here’s the thing about staying out here – you’re definitely removed from the action, which can be either perfect or isolating depending on what you’re after. If you want to hit up the yatai food stalls or explore Nakasu’s nightlife, you’re looking at a taxi ride or dealing with the somewhat infrequent shuttle service they run to Kashii Station. But honestly? That isolation is sort of the point. This feels like a proper retreat, especially if you’ve been grinding through Tokyo or Osaka before landing in Fukuoka. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the area too – they turned me onto this little walking path along the coast that connects to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, which I never would’ve found otherwise. The 8.2 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind with groundbreaking design or Michelin-starred dining, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a polished, peaceful escape with killer water views and a spa that’ll actually leave you feeling human again.

Restaurant food was delicious. Room big and comfortable
What could be improved: There's no access to the beach. Pool little small and overcrowded.
We chose this location because it has pool & beach view. The view really didn't disappoint! We didn't check before booking but our stay was a week before the pool open for summer, I think it is much nicer with the pool open now. Staff was nice,...

The breakfast had a good variety.
The spa was enjoyable.
What could be improved: A bit far from the city.
We had a small issue with the hotel shuttle but the staff was very attentive and they fixed it for us. Mistakes can happen anywhere and it is great when the staff reacts and fixes them in real time. Thank youl
