The Moon Beach Museum Resort Overview
You know what caught me off guard about The Moon Beach Museum Resort? I was expecting another cookie-cutter beachfront hotel in Onna, but this place actually has some character. The location alone – tucked into Maeganeku, just far enough from the main tourist strip along Route 58 – gives it this quieter, more authentic feel. I mean, you’re still only about ten minutes from American Village if you want that scene, but here you can actually hear the waves without competing with karaoke bars.
The “museum” part isn’t just marketing fluff either. They’ve got this interesting collection of local artifacts and traditional Okinawan pieces scattered throughout the lobby and common areas, which honestly makes waiting around for taxis or whatnot way more interesting than staring at your phone. The beach access is what really sold me though – it’s this gorgeous stretch of white sand that doesn’t get completely overrun because, well, most people don’t know about this particular spot. The water’s that incredible turquoise you see in all the photos, but actually experiencing it? Different story entirely. Swimming here in the early morning before the day-trippers arrive is pretty magical.
The rooms are solid – not Instagram-perfect, but comfortable with those floor-to-ceiling windows that let you wake up to ocean views. Fair warning: if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the main road because delivery trucks start rumbling by around 6 AM. The staff’s English is hit-or-miss, but they’re genuinely helpful and patient if you’re stumbling through basic Japanese phrases. Parking’s free and actually spacious, which is honestly a relief after dealing with cramped hotel lots elsewhere on the island. The pool area gets busy during peak season (July-August gets pretty intense), but shoulder seasons like late spring or early fall? You’ll practically have the place to yourself. I’d definitely come back – it’s got that sweet spot of being comfortable without feeling sterile, and you’re positioned perfectly for exploring both the wilder northern coast and the busier central areas when the mood strikes.

Beautiful hotel with a nice beach
Amazing Coral swimming, beautiful heated swimming pool, lovely green lush plants in public areas, beautiful layout, gorgeous beach, lovely on Onsen spa, live music and New Year’s Day activities were fun What could be improved: Didn’t have enough...
Big rooms, heaps of space and amenities, terrific breakfast, great location with a short walk to local restaurants.
What could be improved: Property and rooms could do with an update, but it was clean and well presented.
Super close to the beach
Nice pool
Location amazing , everything clean and functional
What could be improved: Breakfast could have been better quality .
Spacious room, beautiful beach. Local restaurants + Lawson are near. Good breakfast. What could be improved: You have to pay for the umbrellas and chairs at the beach (3300¥ which are super old) and the Gym (1100¥). And there aren’t many chairs...
Beach hot and cold swimming pools food
What could be improved: A bit isolated location
The beach and the pool are amazing! Limousine bus to airport picks you up from front desk. What could be improved: The food wasn’t tasty, the hotel is really old and rusty in some places, all the beach equipment and seats need to be payed to be...
Facilities were great like the indoor and outdoor pools, proximity to the wonderful beach and the varied sea sports available.
What could be improved: Is slightly dated but nothing else and it was not consequential to the stay.
