The Okura Heritage Tokyo

105-0001 Tokyo-to, Minato-ku Toranomon 2-10-4, Japan
HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what hit me first when I walked into The Okura Heritage Tokyo? The smell – not the usual hotel lobby mix of cleaning products and air freshener, but something subtle and woody that actually made me slow down and breathe deeper. This place reopened a few years back after they demolished the original 1960s tower (which honestly broke a lot of architecture lovers’ hearts), but they’ve managed to keep that distinctly Japanese sense of restraint that made the old Okura legendary.
The location in Toranomon is pretty brilliant, actually – you’re tucked away from the chaos of Shibuya or Shinjuku, but still walking distance to some really good stuff. I mean, you can stroll to the Imperial Palace gardens in about ten minutes, and there’s this little tempura place called Daikokuya just around the corner that’s been there since the 1800s. The hotel sits right where old Tokyo meets the business district, so you get these interesting contrasts – ancient shrines practically next door to gleaming office towers. The subway connections are solid too (Kamiyacho and Toranomon-hills stations), though honestly, I found myself walking more than expected because the neighborhood has these quiet side streets that feel worlds away from typical Tokyo intensity.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed that whole “less is more” philosophy without making you feel like you’re staying in a museum. The rooms have these massive windows – floor to ceiling – and the city views are incredible, especially if you snag something facing the palace grounds. The bathrooms alone justify the splurge; deep soaking tubs that actually fit Western-sized humans, and the water pressure is absolutely perfect. Service-wise, they’ve got that Okura reputation to uphold, and it shows – staff remember your name, your coffee preferences, little things like that. The concierge desk actually knows their stuff too, not just the usual tourist trap recommendations. One thing though – parking can be tight if you’re driving, and like most Tokyo hotels, the rooms aren’t huge by American standards, but the design makes them feel more spacious than they are. If you’re looking for that authentic Japanese luxury experience without the stuffiness, and you don’t mind paying for quality, this is honestly one of the better choices in the city.

The room was elite. Very spacious, very clean.
What could be improved: Nothing, would go back in a heartbeat.
Lum from Singapore (5 February 2025)
Most staff were polite and pleasant to guests. What could be improved: Notice part of the buffet section was closed and this caused congestion and slower moving queue even though the place was not at full capacity. Am a returning customer to the hotel partly to try the French breakfast (toast) again. It will be much better if the French menu...
Monique from United Kingdom (4 January 2025)
Breakfast was excellent in the main dining room on the first floor. There is also a club facility in the tower that is much smaller and more intimate, however the breakfast selection is no where near as large.
Lida from Germany (18 November 2024)

Lary from United States (14 October 2024)
Breakfast was good enough, but not exciting. The room was among the best we’ve ever had. Comfort and technology led the way. Room was large. View of Tokyo was fun. Staff was very attentive.
What could be improved: Wife thought the pillows could use an upgrade.
Al-sheiby from Austria (8 September 2024)

Quiet and safe location. The hotel itself is very quiet which was relaxing. I especially like the bathroom design. Amenities and mini-bar very good indeed. Housekeeping is punctual, thorough with cleaning and helpful with minor things like clearing the trash in the evening, pretty much within 5 minutes of receiving our request. Yamazato...
