Look, I’ll be honest – when you first pull up that long driveway to The Omni Homestead, it’s pretty damn impressive. This place has been sitting on 2,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains since 1766, and you can feel that history the moment you walk into the lobby. I mean, the building itself is this massive red brick Georgian structure that actually looks like what you’d imagine a grand Southern resort should look like, not some modern glass box pretending to have character.
What really gets me about the Homestead is how it manages to feel both fancy and genuinely comfortable at the same time. Sure, there’s a dress code for dinner (jacket required in the main dining room, which honestly I appreciate), but during the day you’ll see families in golf clothes wandering around, kids heading to the pool, and couples just relaxing on those enormous front porches. The spa is legitimately fantastic – they’ve got natural hot springs that people have been soaking in for centuries, and the mineral baths actually do make your skin feel different afterward. The golf courses are serious business here too; the Cascades Course has hosted PGA events, and even if you’re not great at golf, playing a round with those mountain views is worth the greens fees.
You know what surprised me most? The food is actually really good. I was expecting typical resort fare – decent but nothing special – but the chefs here seem to genuinely care about what they’re putting out. The main dining room can feel a bit formal (think white tablecloths and multiple forks), but there’s also more casual spots if you’re not in the mood to dress up every night. Parking is easy, check-in was smooth, and honestly the staff seems to know what they’re doing – probably because a lot of them have been here for years. Fair warning though: this place gets busy during peak fall foliage season and around holidays, so if you want that peaceful mountain retreat vibe, maybe avoid October weekends. Also, cell service can be spotty in some of the rooms, which is either a feature or a bug depending on why you’re here. The 8.0 rating feels about right to me – it’s not perfect, but it’s the kind of place that reminds you why people used to plan their whole summer around a resort stay.
