The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo, Autograph Collection Overview
You know what strikes you first about The Prince Sakura Tower? It’s this unexpected sense of calm you get the moment you walk through those doors – which is honestly kind of miraculous considering you’re right in the heart of Takanawa. I mean, you’ve got the JR lines running nearby and all the usual Tokyo energy swirling around, but somehow this place feels like it exists in its own little bubble.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Tokyo at all. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Shinagawa Station, which – let me tell you – is a game changer if you’re planning any day trips or need to catch the shinkansen. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re also right next to this gorgeous traditional Japanese garden that most tourists completely miss. I’ve walked past groups of people rushing to catch trains while I’m sitting there watching koi fish swim around like I’m in some zen documentary. The contrast is wild.
Inside, well, it’s definitely got that Autograph Collection vibe – polished but not stuffy, if that makes sense. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star place, though I will say the bathrooms are particularly well done. Those deep soaking tubs actually fit a normal-sized human being (shocking, I know), and the rainfall showers have proper water pressure. Small details, but they matter when you’ve been walking around Tokyo all day. The views vary quite a bit depending on which side you’re on – some rooms look out over the garden area, others give you those classic Tokyo cityscape views with all the neon and chaos. Both have their charm, honestly.
What really sets this place apart though is how the staff seems to actually understand what travelers need. Like, they’ll casually mention that the convenience store around the corner stays open 24 hours, or that there’s a really good ramen place tucked away on the side street that doesn’t look like much from the outside. It’s those little insider tips that make you feel like you’re getting the real Tokyo experience, not just the tourist version. The concierge desk is particularly good at this – they’ve steered me toward some genuinely great local spots I never would have found otherwise.
Check-in is usually pretty smooth, even during busy seasons (though avoid Golden Week if you can help it – everything in Tokyo gets a bit crazy then). The lobby can get bustling in the evenings when all the business travelers are coming and going, but it never feels chaotic. There’s this subtle background music they play that somehow manages to be present without being annoying – I still can’t figure out how they pull that off.
Look, at an 8.8 rating, you’re not going to be disappointed here. It’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals right while adding enough character to feel special. Plus, when you factor in that garden situation and how connected you are to the rest of the city, it really does hit that sweet spot between convenience and tranquility that’s surprisingly hard to find in Tokyo.

It’s not in the usual Ginza or Shibuya but Shinagawa station is very convenient for both metro, airport expresses and Shinkansen trains. Staff are fantastic and so accommodating. Breakfasts are great too. Gardens were an unexpected joy.
