They pointed me toward this little soba place that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on which trails would be busy versus quiet depending on the day. Parking is straightforward (always a concern when you’re driving up from Tokyo), and check-in was smooth even though I arrived pretty late on a Friday evening. I will say, if you’re coming during peak foliage season or the summer months, book way ahead – this place fills up with people who clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to Karuizawa accommodations.
