Honestly, the 5-star rating isn’t just tourism board fluff – the finishes are genuinely nice, and everything works properly, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in beach apartments knows that’s not always a given. The balconies are where you’ll spend most of your time anyway – I practically lived on mine with morning coffee watching the early surfers and evening wine watching the sunset behind the mountain.

What really sold me was the location intelligence, if that makes sense. You’re a two-minute walk from that little cluster of cafes and restaurants near the base of Mauao, but far enough from the main Tauranga strip that you’re not dealing with the weekend party noise. Parking’s actually sorted (rare for this area), and the building’s set back just enough that you get the views without feeling like you’re in a fishbowl for everyone walking the beach path. The Mount’s changed a lot in recent years – way busier, especially in summer – but staying right here means you can duck back inside when the crowds get intense, then wander back out for those magic golden hour moments when the day-trippers have headed home. Plus, you’re positioned perfectly for the Mount walking track if you’re into that – though honestly, just having Pilot Bay right there for a gentle swim beats fighting the surf when you just want to cool off.
