It’s actually tucked away on this gorgeous stretch of coastline that feels miles from civilization, even though you’re just a quick drive from Historic Fernandina Beach. I mean, the moment you pull up that winding drive through all those ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss, you get it – this isn’t your typical beach resort. The lobby honestly feels more like stepping into an elegant Southern mansion than a hotel, with these soaring ceilings and views that go straight out to the Atlantic. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep that refined Ritz-Carlton polish without feeling stuffy or pretentious, which can be tricky in a place like this where flip-flops are basically formal wear.

The location is actually pretty brilliant when you think about it. You’re on the north end of the island where it’s quieter – no crowded boardwalks or spring break chaos – but you can still easily explore Fernandina’s cute downtown area with all those Victorian houses and local spots like The Salty Pelican (definitely worth the short drive for dinner, by the way). The beach itself is what really sets this place apart though. I’ve stayed at plenty of oceanfront hotels, but there’s something special about having 13 miles of pristine coastline practically to yourself. The sand is that perfect packed consistency for morning runs, and honestly, I saw more wild horses than people some days. The spa here is legit too – I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas, but they actually know what they’re doing, especially if you can snag one of those oceanfront treatment rooms.

What I really appreciate is how they handle the little things that matter when you’re trying to unwind. The pool area never felt overcrowded (even during peak summer), the beach service is on point without being intrusive, and the staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there – which makes a huge difference in the overall vibe. Sure, you’re paying Ritz-Carlton prices, and the resort fee situation is what it is these days, but for a proper luxury beach escape that doesn’t feel like a theme park, this place delivers. Plus, if you’re into golf, that Ocean Course is challenging enough to keep things interesting while still being gorgeous enough that you won’t mind if your game falls apart. Just don’t expect much nightlife beyond the hotel itself – but honestly, that’s kind of the point of coming here in the first place.
