HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of fancy hotels, but The Ritz-Carlton Dallas in Las Colinas actually surprised me – and I mean that in the best way. First off, it’s technically in Irving, not Dallas proper, which honestly works in your favor because you’re getting all that Ritz luxury without the downtown chaos and price tag. The location on MacArthur Boulevard is pretty smart actually – you’re right in the heart of Las Colinas, which locals know is basically the business district that doesn’t feel like a sterile office park. There’s something about pulling up to this place that feels different from other hotels in the area. Maybe it’s how they’ve managed to make a tall building feel intimate, or the way the lobby actually smells like expensive candles instead of that generic hotel air freshener.
What really got me was the attention to detail that you don’t notice until you’ve been there a day or two. The housekeeping staff somehow manages to remember how you like your pillows arranged (I’m particular about these things), and the concierge team actually knows the difference between the good sushi spot on Belt Line Road versus the tourist trap near the Galleria. The rooms themselves are spacious in that way that makes you forget you’re in Texas suburbia – floor-to-ceiling windows that give you either city views or glimpses of the golf course, depending on which side you’re on. I actually prefer the golf course side because it’s quieter, especially if you’re trying to sleep past 7 AM. The bathrooms are ridiculous in the best way – marble everything and a soaking tub that’s actually deep enough for adults. You know what I really appreciated though? The blackout curtains actually work, which seems basic but you’d be surprised how many expensive hotels mess this up.
The whole Las Colinas area has this weird energy where it feels like a planned community that somehow worked out better than expected. You’ve got the canal running through it (touristy but actually kind of charming), and you’re close enough to DFW airport that you don’t stress about flights but far enough that you’re not hearing planes constantly. If you’re here for business, most of the major corporate offices are within a 10-minute drive, and if you’re here for fun, you can hit downtown Dallas in about 20 minutes when traffic cooperates – which honestly isn’t often, but that’s Dallas for you. The hotel’s restaurant is solid without being stuffy, and their bar actually makes a decent old fashioned, though I’d still recommend venturing out to some of the local spots if you have time. With a 9.0 rating, you’re paying for that Ritz-Carlton consistency, but you’re also getting it in a location that feels less hectic than most five-star options in the metroplex.
