HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, The Vinoy is one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into old Florida glamour the moment you pull up. This pink palace sits right on the waterfront in downtown St. Pete, and I mean right on it – you can literally watch the boats in the marina from most of the rooms. The building itself dates back to the 1920s, and you can tell they’ve put serious money into keeping it looking sharp without losing that vintage charm.
What really gets me about this place is the location. You’re walking distance to everything that matters in St. Pete – the Dali Museum is maybe ten minutes on foot, and you can stroll down Central Avenue to hit all those galleries and coffee shops everyone raves about. The Saturday morning farmers market at Williams Park? Easy walk. Actually, the whole downtown grid is so walkable that you barely need your car once you’re checked in. Speaking of which, they do have valet parking (because of course they do), but fair warning – it’s not cheap. The golf course is right there too, which honestly surprised me the first time I visited. You don’t expect to find 18 holes this close to downtown, but there it is, all green and manicured.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a 4-star resort, though some feel more updated than others – I guess that’s what happens when you’re dealing with a historic building. The marina-facing rooms are obviously the winners here, especially around sunset when the whole bay lights up. Room service is solid, the spa does its job well, and the pool area actually stays pretty peaceful even when the hotel’s busy. You know what I really appreciate? The staff seems to genuinely know the area. Ask them about where to grab the best Cuban sandwich or which beach is least crowded on weekends, and they’ll give you real answers, not just whatever’s in the tourist brochure. The only thing that bugs me a little is how packed the restaurant can get during peak season – basically December through April when all the snowbirds descend on Florida. But honestly, that’s a St. Pete problem, not specifically a Vinoy problem. For what you’re getting – that waterfront location, the historic character, being able to walk everywhere worth going – it’s actually a pretty solid choice if you want to do St. Pete right.
