HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what surprised me most about The Westin Ka’anapali? It’s actually tucked away on Kai Ala Drive in a spot that feels more residential than resort-y — which honestly works in its favor. While everyone’s fighting for beach chairs at the massive Hyatt next door, you’re getting this quieter slice of Ka’anapali that still puts you right on one of Maui’s best beaches. The villas here aren’t your typical hotel rooms either; we’re talking full kitchens, separate living areas, and lanais where you can actually hear the waves over the sound of your coffee brewing. I mean, there’s something pretty satisfying about making your own breakfast while watching the sunrise hit Lanai across the channel.
The resort sits on the northern end of Ka’anapali Beach, which locals will tell you is the sweet spot — less crowded than the stretch by Whalers Village, but you can still walk down there in about ten minutes if you want the shopping and restaurants. The pools here are solid (there are three of them), though honestly, with that beach literally steps away, you’ll probably spend more time in the ocean. What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the island well; they pointed us toward this little shave ice spot in Lahaina that we never would’ve found otherwise, and gave us the real scoop on which snorkel spots were worth the drive versus the tourist traps.
Here’s the thing though — this place runs more like a condo complex than a full-service resort, which can be either perfect or disappointing depending on what you’re after. There’s no fancy lobby bar or multiple restaurants on-site, but the trade-off is more space, better value, and that residential vibe that makes you feel less like a tourist. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind with over-the-top luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any major letdowns. Parking is free (which isn’t a given in Ka’anapali), the units are well-maintained, and you’re positioned perfectly for exploring the west side — Napili Bay is a quick drive north, Lahaina’s right there to the south. I’d definitely come back, especially for a longer stay where having that kitchen and extra space really pays off.

The location of the property was excellent. We were able to walk everywhere with the kids. It was convenient. There was a specific area at the pool for the children. The food was great although you had to order and seat yourself at the restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Great location. Some of the best snorkeling in Maui in front of the hotel. Whale watching from the beach every morning and just before sunset. Great to have access to outdoor BBQs to cook dinner. Kitchenette’s in villas were well stocked with pots and pans and dishes.
