The Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler

The location was great for skiing and the ski valet service was very much appreciated after a long day on the slopes.

The food in the restaurant was delicious.

The 1 bedroom suite had a well equipped kitchen and large bathroom.

What could be improved: We arrived just after 3pm and weren’t able to access our room until at least 5pm (4pm is check in time) as it wasn’t ready. On 2 different days when we got back from skiing at just after 4pm housekeeping were in our room and we had to wait in the corridor for them to finish cleaning the room as its company policy not to let anyone into the rooms while cleaning is taking place for security reasons. After a full day of skiing, especially when you are very wet and tired, the last thing you want is to stand in a warm corridor in 5 layers of clothing designed for sub zero temperatures ! There are clearly insufficient housekeeping staff employed at this hotel.

I was a bit disappointed with the spa area - from the photos I thought it looked out over the slopes but the only view from the pool and hot tub is the fencing around the spa area. The spa area was always very crowded and noisy. I used it everyday after skiing and enjoyed the facilities but it was more like a noisy, public swimming pool than a spa.

The living area of the one bedroom suite was quite small - especially if you were using the sofa bed - it would be fine for 2 people sleeping in the bedroom- but it was a little cramped with more than 2 people in the suite.

The location of the hotel was very nice. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is clean, there are plenty of materials. The towels were clean. There was no noise. We slept very comfortably.

What could be improved: Although the check-in time was 16:00, they wanted to keep us waiting and even said that the room was not ready. It was not nice to be kept waiting in such an expensive and five-star hotel. If we didn't objection, we wouldn't be able to enter the room at 16:00. The attitude of the receptionists was not nice. There was no other negativity.

Super location in the village. Lovely views of the mountains. Really friendly and helpful staff. Loved having the coffee bar (serving Starbucks coffee) available for takeaway treats.

What could be improved: The lobby felt a bit flat, there wasn't the usual excitement or Christmas type events as in comparable hotels in the village. There wasn't audible music playing. When we arrived back to the hotel post dinner there wasn't anyone to greet us, and the lobby fire was off. These are little things that can make a difference to a guest experience.
We were told we could check in at 4pm (we arrived around 12:30pm) however we weren't notified about our room until 4:45pm.

Great location. Friendly staff.

What could be improved: Rooms were too small. Beds and pillows were not comfortable. Sauna is small for the amount of guests and old and not maintained. For this class of hotel it should be better. Both bars were closed during the New Year’s Eve.
