The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Avon, Vail Valley Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Avon, Vail Valley, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another ski resort hotel. But you know what? This four-star property surprised me in the best way possible. The location right along the Eagle River feels almost too good to be true — you’re literally steps from the Riverfront Express Gondola, which means Beaver Creek is just eight minutes away without any of the hassle of driving up the mountain. The resort’s riverside setting creates an immediate sense of tranquility that sets it apart from typical mountain accommodations.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about staying in Avon instead of right in Vail Village — you get that mountain town authenticity without the tourist circus. The hotel sits perfectly between Vail and Beaver Creek, so you can hit both mountains easily. There’s parking right on site, which honestly saved me about $40 a day compared to what I would’ve paid in Vail proper. The couples I met during my stay kept raving about how walkable everything is, and I get it — the Nottingham Lake trail starts practically at your doorstep. The proximity to both ski areas makes this location ideal for visitors wanting flexibility.
The Room Experience
My room faced the river, and I actually found myself just sitting by the window with coffee in the mornings, watching the water flow by. The Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed lives up to the hype — I mean, after a day on the slopes, you sink into those layers and just melt. The mountain contemporary design feels fresh without being sterile, and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you don’t feel cramped even with ski gear everywhere. Each accommodation reflects thoughtful attention to comfort and style.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant serves solid American fare for breakfast — nothing revolutionary, but the eggs benedict hit the spot, and the coffee was strong enough to get me moving before an early powder day. What really impressed me was the spa — after three days of skiing, that hot stone massage basically brought me back to life. The fitness center overlooks the river too, so even your workout has a view. If you’re into golf, there are courses within a couple miles, though honestly, I was too busy with winter activities to think about that. The variety of on-site facilities ensures there’s something for every guest preference.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place works because it strikes that perfect balance between mountain accessibility and actual comfort. You’re not paying Vail Village prices, but you’re still getting that Westin reliability and service. The gondola access means you can ski Beaver Creek without the drive, and when you want to explore Vail, it’s just a quick trip down valley. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and after staying here, I totally understand why — it’s that sweet spot where convenience meets value in the Vail Valley. This resort delivers on both the adventure and relaxation fronts that define a memorable mountain getaway.
