The Westin Sendai Overview
You know that feeling when you walk into a hotel lobby and immediately think “okay, this is actually nice”? That’s exactly what happens at The Westin Sendai. I mean, it’s right there on Ichiban-cho – basically Sendai’s main shopping street – so you’re literally in the heart of everything without having to pretend you know the subway system (though Sendai’s is pretty manageable, honestly).
The thing that gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel distinctly Japanese without going overboard with the whole “look how cultural we are” vibe some international chains push. The lobby has this understated elegance thing going on, and when you’re checking in, you can actually hear the city humming outside but it never feels chaotic. What really sold me was stepping into the room – those floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the city are something else, especially if you catch sunset hitting the surrounding buildings just right. The beds live up to Westin’s whole Heavenly Bed reputation too, which honestly matters more than people admit when you’re dealing with jet lag or just spent the day walking around Zuihoden Mausoleum.
Here’s what I really appreciate though – the location means you can walk to Kokubuncho (Sendai’s entertainment district) in about ten minutes, but you’re not stuck dealing with the late-night noise that comes with being right in the thick of it. You’re also super close to Sendai Station, which makes day trips to places like Matsushima Bay totally doable without the usual transportation headaches. The staff actually knows the area well too – not just the tourist spots but practical stuff like where to find a decent convenience store or which izakaya nearby doesn’t require reservations three weeks out. I will say the parking situation can be a bit pricey if you’re driving, but let’s be real, most people aren’t renting cars in Sendai anyway. The breakfast buffet leans heavily into local Miyagi ingredients, which is refreshing when you’ve been eating generic hotel food for weeks. Sometimes you just want proper Japanese rice and miso soup that doesn’t taste like it came from a packet, you know? Overall, it’s one of those places where the 8.9 rating actually makes sense – it’s genuinely well-run without being stuffy, and you’re not paying extra just for marble bathrooms you’ll barely use.

We had spectacular views with sunrise in one room n sunset in another room.
Taxis easily available at the front to take us to Sendai station or a 10 min walk to Sendai station
It was a beautiful hotel and we also got the deluxe room so it was very spacious. The view was absolutely stunning. We did not get the breakfast since we usually don't have breakfast. What could be improved: The location was a bit far from the...

Good location near Sendai station and a short walk to Ichibancho. Excellent breakfast. Staff very helpful.
What could be improved: We stayed 4 nights. Food and snacks in Executive Lounge were almost the same each day. A little variety would be good.
