Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Westin Tokyo in Mita – it’s tucked away in this business district that feels more like where salarymen grab coffee than where tourists hang out. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly why I loved it.

The thing about this place is that it sits right in Meguro-ku, which means you’re actually living like a local instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble of Shibuya or Shinjuku. I mean, don’t get me wrong – you can still hit all the major spots easily enough (Roppongi’s literally next door), but there’s something refreshing about stepping outside and seeing actual Tokyo life happening around you. The morning walks to Onarimon Station became this weird highlight of my trip, passing all these tiny ramen shops that don’t even have English signs and watching the organized chaos of rush hour unfold.

What really got me though was how the hotel itself strikes this perfect balance between Western comfort and Japanese attention to detail. The rooms are spacious by Tokyo standards – actually spacious, not just “well, it’s bigger than a closet” spacious – and the beds are legitimately some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. The bathrooms have those deep soaking tubs that make you wonder why the rest of the world settled for shallow American-style tubs, and the shower pressure is strong enough to wake you up properly (trust me, you’ll need it after exploring Tokyo all day). Staff-wise, they’ve got that Westin polish but with Japanese hospitality layered on top, which basically means they anticipate what you need before you realize you need it.

Here’s the practical stuff that actually matters: the 22nd floor executive lounge has killer views of Tokyo Bay if you can swing the upgrade, parking is surprisingly reasonable for central Tokyo, and the gym stays quiet even during peak hours. Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute train ride from anywhere you actually want to be, but that’s Tokyo for you – everything’s 15 minutes from everything else if you know the train system. The area gets pretty quiet after business hours, which I actually appreciated after long days of sensory overload in the busier districts. Only minor gripe? Room service is pricey even by Tokyo standards, but there’s a 7-Eleven literally around the corner and some fantastic local spots within walking distance if you’re willing to point at menu pictures and smile a lot. All in all, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Tokyo rather than just visiting it.
