Tierra Atacama

Asequitor s/n, 1410000 San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of desert hotels, but Tierra Atacama just hits different. It’s tucked away on Asequitor street – you know, that quiet stretch where you can actually hear the wind through the tamarugos instead of tour buses rumbling past every five minutes. The building itself sort of melts into the landscape in this really thoughtful way, like someone actually considered what it means to build something in one of the world’s driest places without making it look like a concrete eyesore.
What honestly surprised me most was how they’ve managed to create this sense of luxury without completely ignoring where you are. I mean, you’re still in the middle of the Atacama – the air’s still thin, the sun’s still brutal, and yeah, you’ll still get dust on everything. But the rooms have these massive windows that frame the desert views perfectly, and the beds are ridiculously comfortable (which matters more than you’d think after a day of scrambling around salt flats and geysers). The pool area is where I spent most of my downtime – it’s got this infinity edge thing going on that makes you feel like you’re floating right into the cordillera. Smart move putting it where the afternoon light hits just right.
The staff actually knows the area, which is rarer than it should be. They’ll tell you which flamingo spots are worth the early morning drive versus the tourist traps, and they’re honest about timing – like how Valle de la Luna gets absolutely mobbed around sunset, but if you go for sunrise instead, you might have those otherworldly rock formations mostly to yourself. The restaurant leans heavy into local ingredients (quinoa shows up everywhere, but in a good way), and they’ve got this wine selection that makes sense for the altitude. One thing though – if you’re planning to stay during peak season, book the stargazing sessions early. San Pedro’s got some of the clearest skies on the planet, and honestly, lying on those outdoor platforms looking up at the Milky Way was worth the entire trip. Just bring layers because desert nights get cold fast, and they don’t always mention that part upfront.

The hotel is wonderful and we stayed in the suite, which meant that we had the special perk of having private tours in a car at our discretion. Our guide Felipe was so knowledgeable, funny and attentive. The fact that the suites are all inclusive of transfers, trips, food and drinks is very relaxing. What could be improved: The outdoor pools (in...

Wow! We were amazed on an arrival (thank you Chris you star) to departure! The staff were all amazing, I wish I could name everyone individually but they were so helpful, thoughtful and attentive, truly 6* service. The food and drink were of an incredible high standard and great variety and choice. The Knowledgeable guides (Gaspar and team) made...

Beautiful scenery and gorgeous decor in the lobby. The hotel arranges activities which were very enjoyable. they guides were great.
What could be improved: The food was hit and miss. I had some great meals and some not so great ones. The activities are very expensive.

A comida excepcional!!! Pratos com apresentação impecável! Chef maravilhoso!
What could be improved: O serviço de in dinning, ou seja, refeição dentro do quarto. Solicitei 1x e não pude ser atendida.
Daniel from Brazil (27 June 2023)
