Topnotch Resort Overview
First Impressions
Pulling up the winding drive to Topnotch Resort in Stowe, you immediately understand why this four-star property has such a devoted following. The main lodge sits perfectly against the Green Mountains backdrop — it’s that classic Vermont ski lodge aesthetic, but done with real sophistication. I mean, you can tell they’ve put serious thought into every detail, from the stone and timber construction to the way the buildings seem to nestle naturally into the mountainside.
Location & Setting
Honestly, the location is what sets this place apart from other mountain resorts. You’re right in Stowe proper, which means you can actually walk to some great local spots, but you still feel completely removed from any tourist chaos. The resort sits on 120 acres, so there’s this sense of space and privacy that’s hard to find. What I love is how they’ve managed to feel both secluded and accessible — you know you’re somewhere special, but you’re not stranded on some remote mountaintop.
The Accommodations
The room I stayed in was one of their mountain view suites, and honestly, waking up to those views never gets old. The interiors strike this perfect balance between rustic Vermont charm and modern comfort — think exposed beams and stone fireplaces, but with heated bathroom floors and high-end linens. Each apartment-style suite has a full kitchen, which is actually useful here since you might want to grab local ingredients from the farmers market and cook something simple while enjoying the mountain air.
Wellness & Dining
The spa is where Topnotch really lives up to its name — it’s this 35,000-square-foot facility that feels more like a European wellness retreat than your typical hotel amenity. The treatments incorporate local Vermont ingredients (maple sugar scrubs, anyone?), and the relaxation areas have these floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the mountains. The main restaurant, Flannel, focuses on farm-to-table cuisine that actually makes sense here — they’re working with local producers, and you can taste the difference in everything from the cheese plates to the seasonal vegetable dishes.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back — and I’ve met several repeat visitors during my stays — is how the resort manages to feel both refined and genuinely relaxing. There’s no pretension here, just solid hospitality and attention to detail. The staff knows the area inside and out, so they can point you toward the best hiking trails or recommend which local brewery is worth the drive. Parking is never an issue, which might sound trivial but matters when you’re dealing with Vermont’s winter weather. It’s the kind of place where couples especially seem to find their rhythm — maybe it’s the mountain setting, or the way the resort encourages you to slow down and actually connect with each other and the landscape around you.

Outdoor Hot tub
We didn't spend much time in the hotel because we enjoyed going to the town of Stowe near by. The hotel restaurant was very good and the hotel was always clean & the staff was friendly and kind. I loved the location of the hotel.

Lovely setting and spa
We didn't have breakfast at the resort.
In the evening we had some bar snacks with drinks and they were very nice. The ambience in the bar area was great and we enjoyed playing shuffle whilst we had a drink.
