I mean, when you’re staying somewhere with a 6.7 rating despite the five-star label, you go in with measured expectations, but the location itself is genuinely spectacular. The drive up from main Shimla takes about 20 minutes (assuming the tourist buses aren’t clogging everything up), and you’re basically trading the crowded Mall Road chaos for something that feels properly tucked away in the hills.

The property itself is… well, it’s one of those places where you can tell they had grand ambitions. The lobby’s got that slightly over-the-top marble thing going on that screams “we want to be fancy,” but the staff – and this matters more than the décor anyway – actually seem to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, no weird deposit drama, and they helped sort out the whole parking situation without making it feel like a production. The rooms are honestly better than I expected given that rating – clean, spacious enough that you’re not bumping into furniture, and those windows really do deliver on the view promise. Sure, the Wi-Fi gets a bit moody (typical hill station stuff), and the hot water takes its sweet time in the mornings, but you’re not here to live on your laptop anyway.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the location thing. See, a lot of places this far from the main action leave you feeling stranded, but Toshali Royal View is actually positioned pretty cleverly. You’re close enough to Kufri that the whole family-friendly adventure park scene is doable, but far enough from the crowds that evenings feel peaceful instead of chaotic. The restaurant does decent North Indian food – nothing that’ll change your life, but solid and way better than some of the tourist traps down in town. And here’s something practical: they’ve got actual parking space, which if you’ve ever tried to park anywhere near Mall Road during peak season, you’ll know is basically gold. The morning mist rolling through those pine trees outside your window, the sound of actual birds instead of car horns – it’s the kind of thing that makes you remember why people come to hill stations in the first place, before Instagram turned every sunset spot into a photo circus.
