You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Tranquil Resort & Spa on the Medha Road – honestly, the name sounds a bit generic, doesn’t it? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away just enough from the main Mahabaleshwar chaos that you get this sense of breathing room, but you’re still close enough to walk to the popular viewpoints when you feel like dealing with the crowds.

The thing about this resort is that it gets the balance right between being a proper retreat and not making you feel completely cut off from everything. I mean, Mahabaleshwar can be absolutely mental during peak season – especially around Diwali and Christmas when half of Mumbai seems to descend on the hill station – but staying here, you actually get to enjoy the cool mountain air without the constant honking and street vendor calls right outside your window. The spa is genuinely relaxing too, not just some afterthought with a massage table thrown in a spare room. I had this Ayurvedic treatment that left me feeling like I’d been reset, and the therapist actually knew what she was doing instead of just going through the motions.

What I really appreciated was how the staff handled things during my stay in monsoon season – because let’s be real, Maharashtra’s monsoons are no joke. They had this whole system for drying wet clothes and dealing with the humidity that you only figure out if you’ve been operating in this climate for years. The restaurant serves decent Maharashtrian food alongside the usual continental stuff, and their misal pav is actually pretty authentic (I was skeptical at first, but they source the farsan locally). The rooms are comfortable without being flashy – clean, well-maintained, and the hot water works consistently, which honestly is half the battle in hill stations during the cooler months. Sure, it’s a 3-star place so don’t expect marble everything, but the 8.4 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re paying versus what you get. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely unwind without your wallet taking a massive hit, and in Mahabaleshwar’s inflated tourist economy, that’s saying something.
