Uozu Manten Hotel Ekimae

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from Uozu Manten Hotel Ekimae when I first walked up – the name literally means “in front of the station,” which usually screams budget business hotel. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s one of those hotels where the 4-star rating feels earned rather than inflated, and at an 8.0 guest rating, I can see why people keep coming back.

The location is what initially drew me here (I mean, being right across from Uozu Station is pretty hard to beat), but it’s the little things that made me glad I stayed. The lobby has this understated elegance – not trying too hard to impress, just clean lines and that particular Japanese attention to detail you notice in the way the magazines are arranged and how the staff bow just the right amount. My room was larger than I expected, which in Japan is saying something, and the bed was actually comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a concrete slab all night. The bathroom – well, it’s compact but functional, with one of those electronic toilet seats that makes you feel slightly fancy even when you’re just brushing your teeth.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so close to the train tracks. You’d think you’d hear every JR train rolling through, but the soundproofing is solid. I could barely make out the gentle rumble of the early morning express to Kanazawa, which is kind of soothing if you’re into that sort of thing. The staff speaks enough English to help with directions, and they genuinely seem to care about making sure you find what you’re looking for – whether that’s the best ramen shop on Shakado street (there’s this little place about three blocks down that stays open late) or how to catch the bus to the mirage viewing spots along the coast. Check-in was smooth, parking is available if you’re driving, and honestly, for the price point, you’re getting good value in a town that doesn’t have tons of accommodation options. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should.
