Villa Concordia Resort & Spa Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Villa Concordia? It’s tucked away on this quiet stretch of Suehirocho, literally a three-minute walk from the Red Brick Warehouses, but it feels like you’ve stepped into this calm bubble where you can’t even hear the tourist crowds. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Hakodate’s downtown core, and they’re usually buzzing with foot traffic – but somehow this spot manages to be right in the thick of things without the chaos.
The building itself is honestly pretty understated from the outside, which I actually appreciated after dealing with some of those flashier resort properties that are all show. But once you’re inside, there’s this really thoughtful attention to detail that makes sense when you realize it’s pulling a 9.4 rating. The spa area – and I’m not usually a spa person – actually uses local Hokkaido spring water (the staff mentioned it’s sourced from nearby volcanic springs, though I can’t vouch for the science behind it). What I can tell you is that after a long day hiking around Mount Hakodate, those mineral baths hit differently. The whole place has this subtle onsen-style influence without being overly traditional, if that makes sense.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there – you’re literally positioned between the historic district and the waterfront, so you can walk to the morning market for incredible kaisendon, then wander over to the Goryokaku area without needing to figure out Hakodate’s somewhat confusing bus system. I stayed there in late October (perfect timing for the autumn colors, by the way), and the staff mentioned they get pretty busy during snow season since you can actually see the illuminated slopes from some of the higher-floor rooms. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly formal rigmarole you sometimes get at Japanese hotels, just efficient and friendly service from people who clearly know the area well. One small thing I appreciated: they have actual Western-style beds that don’t feel like you’re sleeping on the floor, which honestly can be hit or miss at places trying to blend traditional and modern approaches. The breakfast situation is solid too, with local Hokkaido dairy products and fresh seafood that doesn’t feel like generic hotel fare. If you’re planning to hit the famous night view from Mount Hakodate, the concierge actually knows the best times to avoid the crowds and can arrange transportation that doesn’t involve standing in those endless ropeway lines with tour groups.
Choose from the best healing hotels that specialize in various therapeutic approaches, from thermal springs and mineral baths to energy healing and detoxification programs.

Delicious breakfast
Convenient location - tram station and supermarket within 3 minutes walk, around 10 minutes walk from ropeway station
What could be improved: Ventilation in the toilet can be better
These people walk the extra mile for their guests. The room was fantastic, even with a stereophile worthy super stereo and a full set for making hand brewed freshly ground coffee. Nice beds and duvets. Free drinks, incl wine, in the lobby. They...
We had welcome drinks - free flow of wine and coffee. We were really impressed and grateful for the service. There was also complementary pudding for dessert. The room was huge with a living area and kitchenette. Amazed at the great sound system and...
Rooms were spacious and incredibly well-appointed, clean, and wonderfully serviceable. Breakfast was divine - so far above expectations as to be out-of-this-world. Would HIGHLY recommend to everyone coming to Hakodate!!

We loved the rooms. We had a full kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The room was very large and comfortable.
We did not realize that we got breakfast, so that was a pleasant surprise. It was a full breakfast, and was very good.
Excellent location, superior service, awesome breakfast (better than most 5 stars hotel)
Loved the breakfast. The coffee in the room was fabulous. The free wine and drinks in the evening was a great surprise! What could be improved: However, there should be some a la carte options available for lunch and dinner. Especially for guests...
