Waiheke Island – Onetangi Beachfront Apartments Overview
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of beachfront places, but these apartments on Onetangi actually deliver on that “wake up to the ocean” promise without the usual tourist trap nonsense. The moment you pull up to 27 The Strand, you realize you’re not dealing with some massive resort complex – it’s more like someone took prime real estate right on the beach and created these spacious, thoughtfully designed spaces that feel more like a friend’s really nice beach house than a hotel.
The apartments themselves are honestly impressive – I mean, the kitchens are actually functional (you can cook a proper meal, not just reheat leftovers), and the living areas have those floor-to-ceiling windows that frame Onetangi Beach like a constantly changing painting. What really gets me is how they’ve managed to capture that relaxed Waiheke vibe without skimping on the details that matter. The beds are comfortable, the wifi actually works when you need it, and – this might sound small but it’s huge – they’ve got proper blackout curtains so you can sleep in after a night exploring the island’s wine scene. The balconies are where you’ll probably spend most of your time though, especially during those golden hour moments when the beach empties out and you can hear nothing but waves.
Location-wise, you’re basically living on one of Waiheke’s best swimming beaches, which locals will tell you is saying something. Onetangi stretches for miles, and unlike some of the more crowded spots near the ferry terminal, you can actually find your own patch of sand here. The Strand puts you within walking distance of decent cafes and that little cluster of shops, but honestly, the real magic happens when you venture out – the vineyards are a short drive away, and if you’re into hiking, the coastal walks from here are spectacular (just pack water, trust me). Parking is straightforward, which anyone who’s dealt with Auckland accommodation will appreciate, and the whole setup feels refreshingly low-key. The staff seem to get that people come to Waiheke to decompress, so check-in is smooth and they’re helpful without being hovering. I’d say the only minor thing is that during peak summer weekends it can get a bit lively on the beach – but that’s Waiheke in January for you, and by evening it quiets down to just the sound of the tide coming in.
Premium healing resorts offer comprehensive wellness programs featuring spa therapies, meditation retreats, and holistic treatments designed to promote deep relaxation and personal renewal.
Guest Reviews
lots of space, very quiet and the host was very helpful.
What could be improved: nothing to dislike
The beach is across the road from accommodation, which is a turn right from the bus stop. Loved the location. The accommodation was clean and spacious. The deck has ocean views. Checkin and out was a breeze. Definitely will be back.
The location and view was absolutely stunning, restaurants within 3 minute walk, beach is across the road from accommodation. Lovely spanish style villa with everything clean and tastefully decorated What could be improved: Theres nothing I didnt...
Great location for beach access. Wish I’d been able to enjoy local amenities but only stayed due to a function in another part of the island . Very clean.

Close to beach
What could be improved: Close to the back of a restaurant which gave off some smell and extra white noise
