That’s the thing about staying here that most people don’t realize until they arrive: you’re literally surrounded by Taupo’s thermal wonderland, and it creates this almost otherworldly atmosphere, especially in the mornings when the steam rises through the trees.

The resort itself has that solid, unpretentious feel of a place that’s been hosting families and couples for years without getting too caught up in trendy renovations. Sure, it’s a four-star property, but it’s more about comfort than flash – which honestly works in its favor. The rooms are spacious (way more than you’ll find at those cramped motels closer to town), and you know what? The heating actually works properly, which matters more than you’d think during Taupo’s chilly nights. I loved that you can open the windows and not worry about traffic noise – just the occasional bird call and that gentle geothermal hum that becomes oddly soothing after a day or two.

What really sets this place apart is the location for exploring the area’s natural attractions. You’re practically next door to the Craters of the Moon thermal park, and it’s an easy drive to Huka Falls without dealing with the parking nightmare closer to town. The staff seems to get this too – they’ll actually give you useful tips about timing your visits to avoid the tour bus crowds, rather than just handing you generic brochures. The on-site restaurant is decent enough (nothing mind-blowing, but solid pub-style food), though I’d definitely recommend venturing into Taupo proper for dinner at least once. It’s only about ten minutes by car, and the drive along the lake at sunset is worth it alone. Parking here is never an issue, by the way – something you’ll appreciate if you’ve ever tried to find a spot near the lake during peak season. The 7.3 rating feels about right, actually. It’s not going to blow you away, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a comfortable, well-located base for exploring one of New Zealand’s most geothermally active regions, with enough space to truly unwind after a day of hiking or soaking in hot springs.
