Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Waldorf Astoria Orlando, I wasn’t sure what to expect – I mean, it’s tucked away in this corner of Bonnet Creek that feels surprisingly secluded for being smack in the middle of Disney World madness. The resort sits on this winding road that curves through what feels like actual Florida wetlands, and you know what? That’s actually its biggest selling point. You’re literally minutes from Magic Kingdom, but when you’re sitting by their pool, you’d never know thousands of tourists are streaming past pirates and princesses just down the road.

The lobby hits you with that classic Waldorf vibe – all dark wood and crystal chandeliers – but it doesn’t feel stuffy like some luxury hotels can. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep Disney magic subtle here. There are little Mickey touches if you look for them, but this isn’t one of those resorts where cartoon characters are plastered everywhere. The staff actually knows the area well too, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case at Disney properties. They’ll tell you things like taking the boat to Disney Springs is way more relaxing than driving (and they’re right), or that early morning golf at their course means you’ll see alligators sunning themselves on the fairways – which is simultaneously terrifying and very Florida.

The rooms are spacious, especially by Orlando standards, and here’s something I appreciated: real blackout curtains that actually work. After a day of Florida sun and Disney crowds, you want to sleep in, and these rooms deliver. The bathrooms are gorgeous with those deep soaking tubs, though I’ll be honest – after walking 15 miles around Epcot, you’re probably too tired to use them. What’s clever is how they’ve positioned the resort. You’re close enough to use Disney transportation (the bus to Magic Kingdom runs regularly), but you’re also right off Buena Vista Drive, so hitting up other Orlando attractions or even getting to the airport doesn’t require navigating through Disney traffic. That boat service to Disney Springs I mentioned? It’s one of those little luxuries that makes the premium price feel worth it, especially during busy seasons when the parking lots are absolute chaos. The resort can get pricey during peak times – we’re talking serious money during Christmas and spring break – but if you can swing it during slower periods, it’s honestly one of the better splurge options in the area. The 8.3 rating makes sense; it’s not perfect, but it nails what most people want from a Disney-area luxury stay without feeling like you’re sleeping inside a theme park.
