You know, I wasn’t sure what to expect when the taxi wound its way up Barlow Ganj Road toward Yog Wellness Resort – the driver kept muttering about the narrow turns and honestly, I was getting a bit carsick. But then we pulled into the Brookvilla Estate and wow, everything just opened up into this gorgeous hillside property that feels like someone’s really well-appointed mountain retreat rather than a typical resort.

The thing about this place is that it actually delivers on the wellness concept without being all precious about it. I mean, sure, there’s yoga (obviously, given the name), but they’ve got this really thoughtful spa that uses local herbs – you can smell the eucalyptus and pine even in the corridors. The rooms are what you’d call understated luxury; mine had this massive window overlooking the valley that I basically lived in front of for three days. The bed was one of those cloud-like situations where you sink in just enough, and the bathroom had heated floors which, let me tell you, is a game-changer during Mussoorie’s cooler months. What really got me though was how quiet everything is – you’re close enough to the main hill station that you can easily get into town (about a 10-minute ride), but far enough out that you don’t hear the constant honking and tourist chatter that downtown Mussoorie is famous for.

The food situation is actually pretty impressive too. They’ve got this restaurant that does both Indian and continental, but the chef clearly knows what they’re doing with local ingredients – I had this incredible trout that apparently came from nearby streams, and their dal was the kind that makes you understand why people write poetry about comfort food. The staff has that rare quality where they’re attentive without hovering, and they seem to genuinely know the area well. When I mentioned wanting to do some hiking, the concierge didn’t just hand me a brochure – he sat down and drew out a little map showing which trails would be best given the recent rains. Honestly, that kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold. The spa treatments are the real highlight though; I did this Ayurvedic massage that left me feeling like I’d been rebuilt from scratch. Fair warning – if you’re looking for a party scene or want to be in the thick of Mall Road action, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to actually relax and maybe remember what it feels like to breathe properly, Yog Wellness Resort hits that sweet spot between luxury and authenticity that’s surprisingly hard to find in hill stations these days.
