Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in the Keys, and Baker’s Cay Resort honestly surprised me in the best way. You know how sometimes you book a place and wonder if you made the right call? Well, pulling up to this spot on the Overseas Highway – right at mile marker 97 if you’re keeping track – I immediately felt that little flutter of “okay, this is going to be good.” The property sits back from the road enough that you’re not dealing with the constant hum of traffic heading down to Key West, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think when you’re trying to sleep.
What really gets me about this place is how they nailed that whole “upscale but not stuffy” vibe that’s so hard to pull off in the Keys. I mean, you’ve got your typical resort amenities – the pools are genuinely nice, not just Instagram-nice – but there’s this laid-back authenticity that feels right for Key Largo. The staff actually knows the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many resort workers can’t tell you where to find the best conch fritters or when the sunset tours are worth your time. Speaking of which, if you’re here during tarpon season (May through July), ask them about the fishing charters – they work with some captains who really know their stuff, not just the tourist mill operations.
The rooms themselves? Solid. I stayed in one of the waterfront units and honestly, waking up to that view never got old, even after a week. The AC works like a dream – crucial in South Florida summer – and the beds are actually comfortable, not that weird hotel-firm that leaves you wondering if you slept on a board. Parking’s easy and free, which might sound trivial until you’ve dealt with some of the cramped lots at other Key Largo properties. The resort sits on a decent stretch of water too, so if you’re into kayaking or just want to float around without fighting crowds, you’re set. Fair warning though – if you’re here during stone crab season or any major fishing tournament, the whole area gets busier, but that’s true anywhere in the Keys. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on the real Florida Keys experience, and for a 4-star property with Hilton backing, that 8.0 rating feels about right – good enough to recommend without overselling it.

good quiet room with sea view, comfortable bed (once we were given a blanket). The bed was very comfortable, there was a fridge, the shower was great. There were some activities on offer which explained the resort fee, although poor weather meant we didn't really use any. We loved the sitting area and the books, sofas and pool table.
