The whole place feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need instead of just cramming in as many rooms as possible. There’s proper parking right there, which anyone who’s driven around Auckland will tell you is basically gold. I stayed during one of those typical Auckland winter weeks where it drizzles on and off, and the covered walkways were a nice touch – small thing, but you notice it when you’re hauling luggage.

The location thing is where this place really shines though. You’re maybe ten minutes from the Harbour Bridge if traffic’s decent, and Takapuna Beach is right there when you want to escape the city madness. The staff actually knows the area too – not just the tourist stuff, but like where to grab decent coffee that won’t cost you fifteen bucks (there’s this little place about three blocks down that they recommended, and it was spot on). What I really appreciated was that they didn’t oversell anything. The woman at check-in was just straightforward about what to expect, where things were, how to work the slightly temperamental shower handle – that kind of practical honesty you don’t always get. Sure, it’s not some fancy resort with a spa and room service, but for the price point and that 8.1 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who wants a clean, comfortable base to explore Auckland from without all the downtown hotel drama, this is your spot.
