Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Marine Parade – I mean, it’s such a busy strip with tourists everywhere – but Unit 3C at the Spacious Oceanside Oasis completely changed my perspective on Mount Maunganui accommodation. The moment you step inside, you realize this isn’t your typical cramped beachfront rental. The living space actually lives up to the “spacious” part of the name, which is refreshing because, let’s be honest, most New Zealand beach places are pretty tight on square footage.

What really gets me about this spot is the view – and I’m not just talking about the obvious ocean thing that every Marine Parade property claims. You’re positioned perfectly to catch both the sunrise over the water and that golden hour light hitting the Mount itself. The sound situation is interesting too; you’d think being right on the parade would mean constant traffic noise, but the unit’s setup somehow buffers most of it. You’ll still hear the occasional boy racer on weekend nights (it’s the Mount, after all), but during the day it’s surprisingly peaceful. The kitchen’s actually functional – I mean really functional, not just a token hotplate and mini-fridge situation. I ended up cooking most mornings because walking down to Pilot Bay for fresh fish became this little ritual, and having proper prep space made all the difference.

Parking’s sorted, which anyone who’s driven around the Mount in summer will tell you is worth its weight in gold. You’re close enough to walk to the main beach in about three minutes, but far enough from the Strand’s weekend chaos that you can actually relax. The whole area gets pretty hectic during peak season – December through February is absolutely nuts – but even then, this place feels like a bit of a sanctuary. What I really appreciated were the thoughtful touches that you don’t notice until you need them: proper blackout curtains (crucial for those 5:30 AM summer sunrises), decent water pressure, and enough power points that you’re not constantly unplugging things. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places where everything just works without being flashy about it. If you’re planning to explore beyond the immediate beach area, you’re perfectly positioned – Tauranga’s just across the bridge, and you can hit up the weekend markets or head out to the wineries without feeling like you’re based in the middle of nowhere.
