Absolute Beachfront B&B

33 Ferguson Street South, Bay View, 4104 Napier, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Absolute Beachfront B&B on Ferguson Street – I mean, you see “beachfront” thrown around so casually these days that it’s lost all meaning. But this place actually delivers on that promise in a way that’ll make you forget why you were skeptical in the first place. The moment you step out of your car (parking’s right there, by the way, which is honestly a relief in this part of Napier), you can hear the waves. Not the distant rumble you get from “ocean view” places three blocks inland – actual waves, like the kind that’ll lull you to sleep if you leave the windows cracked.
What really got me was how the owners have managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling fancy and actually being comfortable. The place has this relaxed elegance thing going on – you know what I mean? Like, yes, everything’s beautiful and well-maintained (that 9.8 rating isn’t a fluke), but you’re not afraid to put your feet up or track in a bit of sand from the beach. The rooms face directly onto the water, and I’m talking about waking up to unobstructed views of Hawke Bay that stretch all the way to the horizon. During the quieter months – and trust me, winter here is underrated – you’ll have entire stretches of beach practically to yourself. The breakfast situation is one of those pleasant surprises where they actually put thought into local ingredients rather than just setting out the standard continental spread.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring Napier without being stuck in the touristy chaos of Marine Parade. Bay View has this laid-back residential feel that makes you understand why people move here and never leave. You can walk along the beach for miles in either direction, or if you’re feeling ambitious, it’s an easy drive into central Napier for the art deco architecture and wine tours. The hosts seem to genuinely know the area – not just the obvious attractions, but the kind of local spots you’d want your friend to tell you about. The whole experience feels less like staying at a commercial property and more like crashing at the beach house of someone who has impeccable taste and actually wants you to have a good time. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in the area, but when you’re watching the sunrise over the Pacific from your room while sipping coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a hotel lobby, you’ll understand why some things are worth paying for.

This place was absolutely perfect! Very quaint but extremely well equipped room and bath. The owners were so pleasant and seemed genuinely interested in us and our travels in NZ. The unit was spotless and had all the little touches and amenities that you don’t always see in a hotel or other B&Bs. Only wish we had another day or 2 there! Maybe next...
Richard from United Kingdom (17 November 2024)
Brin and Biddy made us feel very welcome in their comfortable annex which included a wide choice of breakfast items.
We also used their bikes to cycle to Mission Winery for wine tasting.
The property is beachfront so if you like a morning swim they have a warm outside shower.
A Great stay!
