Alyeska Resort Overview
First Impressions
You know what hits you first at Alyeska Resort? It’s not just the dramatic Chugach Mountains rising right behind the building — though honestly, that view is pretty spectacular. It’s actually how this four-star resort manages to feel both grand and surprisingly intimate at the same time. I mean, you’re literally at the base of a ski mountain in Girdwood, about 40 minutes south of Anchorage, but there’s something almost European about the whole setup that makes it feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special.
The Mountain Experience
The ski-to-door access isn’t just marketing speak — you really can step out of the hotel and onto the slopes. During my winter visit, I watched guests glide right up to the building after their runs, which was pretty cool to see. But here’s the thing about Alyeska that surprised me: it’s actually just as compelling in summer. The aerial tramway runs year-round, and taking it up to the Seven Glaciers restaurant for dinner while watching the sun set over Turnagain Arm — well, that’s the kind of experience that sticks with you. The resort sits at this perfect spot where you get both mountain adventure and easy access to some of Alaska’s most stunning scenery.
Accommodations and Comfort
My room had floor-to-ceiling windows facing the mountain, and I spent way too much time just standing there with my coffee in the morning. The accommodations feel substantial without being overly fancy — think comfortable mountain lodge rather than glitzy resort. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re right at the base of an active ski area. The beds are genuinely comfortable (something you notice more when you’ve been hiking or skiing all day), and the bathrooms are well-appointed without going overboard.
Wellness and Relaxation
After a long day on the mountain, the spa becomes your best friend. I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from a resort spa in Alaska, but they’ve got this whole Nordic-inspired approach that actually makes perfect sense for the location. The treatments incorporate local ingredients, and there’s something deeply satisfying about getting a massage while snow is falling outside your window. The fitness center is solid too, though honestly, with all the outdoor activities available, I barely used it.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really connect with this place — and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being tucked away in this mountain setting, especially when you factor in those glacier views and the cozy fireplaces scattered throughout the common areas. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward (always a relief when you’re traveling with ski gear), and the staff genuinely knows the area well enough to point you toward hidden gems. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing the real Alaska, not some sanitized version of it.
Premium healing resorts offer comprehensive wellness programs featuring spa therapies, meditation retreats, and holistic treatments designed to promote deep relaxation and personal renewal.

Beautiful setting.
We come from Anchorage for a few days a year to mellow out and relax. The pool is always the highlight of our trip.
There are thoughtful touches to this property nestled in nature. The nordic spa was terrific. The rooms were very sound proofed.
The staff and facillities were great! The setting was beautiful. The grounds and landscaping lovely. Loved having Tram onsite with terrific views! The building is beautufully decorated and the room large and comfortable.
We loved the Nordic Spa here at the resort. We did the 60 minute massage before the spa and was well worth every penny!
The location is wonderful and very quiet. Beautiful views and staff are nice.
The resort didn't offer late checkout, but they were accommodating in storing the bags. Also the pool attendants were quite nice. The shops were also quite nice, well-curated, and reasonably priced given the location. Common spaces were inviting and...
