Amara Resort & Spa
Amara Resort & Spa Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, when I first pulled up to Amara Resort & Spa on that quiet stretch of Amara Lane, I wasn’t quite prepared for how perfectly it sits against Sedona’s red rock backdrop. This four-star property has this understated elegance that feels refreshing — you know what I mean? It’s not trying too hard to impress, but somehow that makes it even more striking. The parking situation is actually fantastic here, which might sound trivial until you’ve circled around Sedona looking for a decent spot elsewhere.
The Room Experience
I have to say, the beds here live up to their reputation — and I’m someone who’s pretty particular about sleep quality when traveling. The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of contemporary comfort and Southwestern touches that didn’t feel forced or touristy. Large windows frame those iconic red rocks, and honestly, I found myself just sitting there with my morning coffee longer than usual. The space feels thoughtfully designed, with enough room to actually unpack and settle in rather than living out of a suitcase.
Dining and Wellness
The breakfast setup impressed me more than I expected — they’ve got solid vegetarian options alongside classic American fare, which covers most dietary preferences without making anyone feel like an afterthought. What really sets this place apart though is the spa. I mean, you’re already in Sedona, so the healing energy thing is sort of built into the location, but they’ve created treatments that actually complement that rather than just capitalizing on it. The fitness center is well-equipped too, though honestly, with all the hiking opportunities right outside, I barely used it.
Location and Activities
Here’s the thing about Amara’s location — it’s close enough to Uptown that you can walk to galleries and shops, but far enough removed that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your door. Couples seem to really get this balance, and I can see why they rate the location so highly. There’s a golf course within a couple miles if that’s your thing, but the real draw is having easy access to some of Sedona’s best trails. You can literally start hiking from the property and connect to several trail systems without driving anywhere.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about this place is how it manages to feel both polished and relaxed at the same time. The staff clearly knows Sedona well — they gave me trail recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots, and their timing suggestions for avoiding crowds were spot-on. It’s the kind of place where you can have a restorative getaway without feeling like you’re completely disconnected from civilization. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you experience how all these elements come together — good sleep, genuine hospitality, and that perfect Sedona setting that somehow makes everything feel more meaningful.
