Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – A Concept by Hyatt
Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – A Concept by Hyatt Overview
Walking into Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – A Concept by Hyatt, you immediately feel like you’ve stepped into something special — and honestly, that feeling never really goes away during your stay. This five-star property sits right on one of Wailea‘s most gorgeous stretches of beach, and I mean, the location alone is worth the splurge. You know what struck me most? How they’ve managed to create this sense of modern luxury without losing that authentic Hawaiian spirit that so many resorts seem to forget about.
The room I stayed in was absolutely stunning, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Pacific like a living painting. Actually, calling it just a room feels like an understatement — these spaces are designed with this open, airy concept that makes you feel connected to the ocean even when you’re inside. The beds here are something else entirely (and apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so, since guests consistently rave about them). I slept better than I had in months, which is saying something when you’re dealing with Hawaii time zone adjustments.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve thought about every detail without making it feel stuffy or overly formal. The spa treatments incorporate traditional Hawaiian healing practices — I had a lomilomi massage that honestly left me feeling like a completely different person. The fitness center overlooks the ocean, so even your workout feels like a vacation activity. And if you’re into golf, there are some incredible courses within just a couple miles that the concierge can hook you up with.
Breakfast here is this beautiful buffet situation that changes daily, featuring both local Hawaiian specialties and more familiar options. I found myself trying things I’d never heard of before — the local fruit selection alone is worth getting up early for. The coffee is exceptional too, which matters more than you might think when you’re trying to ease into island time. They source a lot of their ingredients locally, and you can actually taste the difference.
The beach access is probably the hotel’s biggest selling point, and for good reason. Wailea Beach is consistently ranked as one of the world’s best, and having it essentially as your backyard is pretty incredible. The water is this perfect turquoise color that doesn’t look real in photos, and the sand is soft enough that you’ll want to walk barefoot everywhere. I spent hours just floating in the calm waters — it’s protected enough that even nervous swimmers feel comfortable.
One thing that surprised me was how well they handle couples versus families. The layout naturally creates these intimate spaces where you can feel completely alone, even when the resort is busy. Couples especially seem to love it here — and I can see why, since there are all these little secluded spots perfect for romantic dinners or just watching the sunset together. The infinity pools blend seamlessly into the ocean horizon, creating these Instagram-worthy moments that happen naturally.
The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward — they have private spots on-site, so you don’t have to worry about the usual Hawaii parking headaches if you decide to rent a car and explore the island. Which, honestly, I’d recommend doing at least once during your stay. The Road to Hana is about an hour away, and having a reliable place to come back to after a day of adventure makes all the difference.
Staff here genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs, which creates this relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that’s hard to fake. They know the area inside and out — not just the touristy stuff, but the hidden gems that locals actually go to. I got recommendations for this incredible food truck and a snorkeling spot that wasn’t crowded with tour groups, the kind of insider knowledge that makes a trip memorable.
The design aesthetic throughout the property strikes this perfect balance between contemporary luxury and Hawaiian culture. You’ll find local artwork and materials incorporated thoughtfully, not just slapped on as decoration. The common areas flow naturally from indoor to outdoor spaces, which makes sense given the year-round perfect weather. Even the lighting feels intentional — everything glows beautifully during golden hour.
Look, Wailea isn’t exactly a budget destination, and this resort reflects that reality. But if you’re going to splurge on a Hawaiian getaway, this is the kind of place that justifies the expense. Every morning you wake up to that view, every evening you watch the sun melt into the Pacific, and somehow the rest of the world feels very far away. It’s the sort of experience that stays with you long after you’ve returned to reality — and honestly, isn’t that exactly what a great vacation should do?

Access to the beach and beach accessories were very helpful. The resort fee does include a lot of actual amenities (snorkel gear, beach chairs, experiences). Location to a nearby shopping center was great and provided additional non-beach activities, and the courtesy vehicle made it accessible. Staff of all departments were great.

It was such a beautiful property! The open-air lobby was so nice. We actually fell asleep on one of the couches waiting for our room (We got there early). The smells at this property just put you on island time immediately. We had a wonderful time at the luau. We decided to do it the day we arrived because we were already so comfortable! There...
