HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from another Hyatt property when I first pulled up to the Andaz Maui – I mean, you’ve seen one luxury resort, you’ve seen them all, right? But this place actually surprised me from the moment I walked into that open-air lobby. There’s something different about how they’ve designed it, sort of like they took the stuffy hotel vibe and just… threw it out the window. The check-in process happens at these casual iPad stations where the staff actually talks to you like real people instead of reciting scripts, and you know what? It sets the tone for everything else.

What really gets me about this spot is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and relaxed at the same time. The pools – there are four of them, by the way – each have their own personality. The main infinity pool overlooks Wailea Beach (which, let’s be real, is one of the better stretches of sand on this side of Maui), but if you want to escape the families, that rooftop pool on the 15th floor is where it’s at. I spent way too many afternoons up there with a drink from the Bumbye Beach Bar, watching the sunset paint Molokini Crater in the distance. The rooms themselves are sleek without being cold – floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open, which is rarer than you’d think in hotels these days, and those deep soaking tubs that look out over the ocean if you book right.

Here’s the thing though – location matters more than people realize, and this place nailed it. You’re literally a two-minute walk to some of the best snorkeling on the island at Wailea Beach, but you’re also close enough to hop over to Makena Beach or even drive down to that little food truck scene in Kihei when you want something more local than resort dining. Speaking of food, Ka’ana Kitchen surprised me – I was expecting typical resort fare, but their take on local ingredients actually works. The spam fried rice sounds touristy but it’s legitimately good. Parking is complimentary (thank god, because most Wailea resorts will hit you with those fees), and the resort fee situation is… well, it exists, but at least they’re upfront about it. If I’m being completely honest, the only thing that bugged me was how busy the main pool area gets during peak season – December through March, you’ll want to claim your spot early. But overall? This is the kind of place that makes you remember why you came to Maui in the first place, without making you feel like you’re trapped in a resort bubble the whole time.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We particularly loved the breakfast buffet, the tiered pools, and the complimentary recreational activities. All in all it was truly a wonderful stay and when we left we kept thinking about how much we missed being there!

Access to the beach and beach accessories were very helpful. The resort fee does include a lot of actual amenities (snorkel gear, beach chairs, experiences). Location to a nearby shopping center was great and provided additional non-beach activities, and the courtesy vehicle made it accessible. Staff of all departments were great.

There was direct access to the beach, the food was amazing, and the staff was so helpful! We had all these plans to explore, but we were so comfortable at the resort that we didn't do quite as much as we had planned. We actually had a red-eye to catch on the last day, and we could only get a 12:00 PM Check out. The staff offered to keep our luggage for us, let us hang out at the resort, and let us know about the shower room on site so that we could have a shower before our flight. I would stay here every time!
