You know what caught me off guard about Beira Mar? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with fancy lobbies or over-the-top amenities, but somehow ends up being exactly what you need. I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star property, but honestly – and I’ve stayed at plenty of supposedly “luxury” places that felt way more sterile – this spot just gets beach holidays right.

The location is pretty sweet if you know Benaulim at all. While everyone crowds into the main beach area near the shacks and touts, Beira Mar sits in Vasvaddo, which is this quieter stretch where you can actually hear the waves instead of just motor scooters and hawkers. The walk to the main Benaulim action takes maybe 10 minutes along the beach (longer if you stop at every fishing boat like I did), but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the chaos when you just want to chill. The staff actually knows the area too – they pointed me toward this tiny local place for fish curry that I never would’ve found otherwise, tucked away behind the main road where only locals seem to eat.

What really works here is that everything feels lived-in rather than showroom perfect. The rooms have that comfortable, slightly worn feeling that somehow makes you relax faster than pristine hotel sterility ever could. My balcony overlooked the pool area, and I spent way too many evenings just watching families splash around while the sun set behind the palm trees. The pool itself isn’t huge, but it’s got character – there’s this spot where the kids always congregate that’s shallow enough for the little ones, and the deeper end stays pretty quiet if you want to actually swim laps. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that endless paperwork and upselling you get at chain hotels. The guy at reception remembered my name by day two, which honestly surprised me more than it should have. Parking was never an issue either, even during what seemed like a busy weekend when half of Margao descended on the beach. I’d probably come back here, actually – it’s got that rare combination of being unpretentious but still comfortable, close enough to everything but not right in the middle of tourist chaos. For families especially, this place just makes sense.
