Dormy Inn Premium Nagasaki Ekimae Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the Dormy Inn Premium Nagasaki Ekimae, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s literally right next to the train station, so I figured it’d be one of those sterile business hotels. But you know what? This place actually surprised me. The lobby has this warm, understated elegance that feels distinctly Japanese without being overdone, and the staff greeted me with that genuine Nagasaki hospitality that’s different from Tokyo’s more formal approach.
What really won me over was the onsen on the top floor – and I’m talking about a proper hot spring bath with views over the city. After spending the day walking around Dejima and climbing up to Glover Garden (your legs will thank you for this later), soaking in those mineral-rich waters while watching the sun set over Nagasaki Bay is honestly magical. The bath gets busy around 7-8 PM when all the salarymen check in, but if you go earlier in the evening or later around 10 PM, you’ll practically have it to yourself. They also do this thing where they serve free ramen in the evening – it’s actually decent tonkotsu, not the usual hotel convenience store stuff.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid Japanese business hotel, but with thoughtful touches that show someone cares. The beds are firm (which I love), there’s a proper desk if you need to work, and the bathroom is one of those efficient Japanese setups where everything just works perfectly. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being right on Gotomachi – the soundproofing is excellent, so you won’t hear the early morning trains or the late-night taxis. The location is ridiculously convenient too; you’re literally a two-minute walk from Nagasaki Station, which means easy access to the streetcar lines that’ll take you everywhere you want to go. Shinchi Chinatown is maybe a 10-minute walk, and you can catch the tram to the Peace Park or Atomic Bomb Museum without any hassle. There’s a decent convenience store right downstairs, and if you want real food, the whole Hamanomachi shopping district is just across the way. I stayed here in early March when the plum blossoms were starting to bloom, and honestly, for the price point and that 8.8 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, well-run hotel that understands what travelers actually need.
