Hotel Hare Uta

Easter Island, Chile 8/10

Hotel Hare Uta Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel Hare Uta on Avenida Hotu Matua, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s Easter Island, you know? You come here for the moai, not luxury hotels. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about Hare Uta is that it gets Easter Island right – and that’s harder than it sounds. The property sits quietly away from the main tourist hustle of Hanga Roa’s center, but you’re still close enough to walk to Ahu Tongariki for sunrise (which, trust me, you absolutely have to do). The staff here actually knows the island, not just the hotel script. When I mentioned wanting to catch the sunset at Rano Raraku, the front desk guy – I think his name was Carlos – gave me this whole rundown about the best viewing spots and reminded me about the new park regulations. You could tell he’d grown up here, had that easy familiarity with the rhythms of the place.

What really won me over was how they’ve designed everything to work with the island’s vibe rather than against it. The rooms have these big windows that frame the landscape perfectly, and honestly, waking up to that view of the rolling hills never got old. The Wi-Fi is solid (crucial when you’re this far from everywhere), and the water pressure is surprisingly good – small things that matter when you’ve been hiking around volcanic craters all day. I loved that they didn’t try to make it feel like some generic resort; the building materials and colors actually complement the natural surroundings instead of fighting them. Even the pool area has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” – it just fits.

The breakfast spread is where their local knowledge really shows. Sure, they’ve got the standard continental stuff, but they also serve fresh tropical fruits that taste nothing like what you get back home, and the coffee (Chilean coffee is underrated, by the way) kept me going through those early morning moai expeditions. The restaurant staff was great about packing takeaway breakfasts when I wanted to catch sunrise at different sites – they seemed to genuinely understand that people come to Easter Island with specific bucket list moments in mind.

Look, it’s not perfect – the building itself is fairly modern and won’t win any architectural awards, and if you’re expecting resort-style entertainment, you’ll be disappointed. But that’s actually what I liked about it. Hotel Hare Uta understands that Easter Island is the attraction, not the hotel. They’ve created this comfortable, well-run base camp that lets you focus on why you came here in the first place. After spending days exploring one of the most remote places on Earth, coming back to clean, comfortable rooms with staff who actually care about your experience felt like exactly what I needed. Plus, that 9-star rating isn’t just inflated marketing speak – this place delivers on the fundamentals while respecting the incredible location it calls home.

My husband and I we stayed the first week of March. I have no words to explain our satisfaction, our joy of this hotel. the place is extremally beautiful, green with many flowers, fruits. The staff is amazing polite. Much thanks to manager Jose, Tomas, that found for us the most most knowledgeable guide Nikolas. Special thanks for the kitchen stuff - the food is amazing, amazing, amazing.... But I have to share something very important: I booked HB - which includes breakfast and lunch according to booking.com. We didn't want lunch. But I did this to obtain every day excursion included in this rate. BUT .....when we arrived they told us that we are free to choose between lunch and dinner. So, we immediately chose dinner. Even more during our day trip the hotel provide for us sweets (banana bread cakes....), fruits, fresh juices and water. At the end we have all inclusive at the rate of HB ........,
This is very important, because I had serious hesitation and I was almost to book only BB.
With all my heart I want to say THANK YOU HARE UTA

Amazing spacious garden, good restaurant, everything new and nice. All the staff very kind.

What could be improved: They have to buy a good coffee machine for espresso. Because the coffee is the only one thing which is not good in this hotel 🙂

Even though it was not possible to check in before hours, the staff made every effort to make me feel comfortable. Very positive energy and wonderful attitude Beautiful place, the rooms, the houses, garden, pool (although a bit on the small side, it is gorgeous), very nice staff

What could be improved: Very minor things that could be improved like one more senior staff, one or two breakfast items (understandably that coffee is not quite up to standard but while everything is varied and very good, the bread is not - and there is bakeries with decent bread etc...). Description on Booking is a bit misleading, my room as such did not have pool view, not a problem since the garden is gorgeous but it could be better described

We stayed for 3 nights and our expectations were exceeded. The hotel is in a good location for exploring the whole island. Our room was in a great position, overlooking the pool, was comfortable and air conditioned. The hotel’s garden, food and cocktails were all brilliant. A taxi into Hanga Roa was only 5000 CLP. We hired a car from the hotel for the day so we could explore ourselves. We then had a half day excursion with a brilliant guide the following day. She was the president of (I think) the tourism board in Rapa Nui. Learning and seeing the Moais was definitely the highlight of the trip.

What could be improved: We were told that the restaurant and bar was open from 1300 to 2200 daily. My only criticism is that on our final evening at dinner (we sat down approximately 2120 after watching the sunset at Abu Thahai) we were told that cocktails could not be served; only beer and wine. This is clearly not much of an issue but I was rather looking forward to a cocktail that evening (they were very good). I noticed that there was only one member of staff on duty. Perhaps she did not know how to make them or did into have time? Otherwise a fantastic stay and I would thoroughly recommend to others.

Location, very helpful staff. Booked all of our private tours at lowest prices. Food was good value. Breakfast was a bit disappointing on selection.

What could be improved: Hot water scarce.

We loved the free bikes provided as it made the distance into town manageable. Fantastic breakfast - the warm croissants were superb.

What could be improved: Far from town.
