JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes Overview
So, JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes – honestly, this place surprised me more than I expected. You know what hits you first? The sheer scale of it all when you’re driving up International Drive toward the resort. I mean, this five-star property sits on 500 acres (yes, 500!), and you’ll feel like you’re entering some kind of luxury bubble away from the typical Orlando chaos. The lobby’s got this soaring ceiling with these gorgeous chandeliers, but what really caught my attention was how they’ve managed to keep it feeling warm despite its size – there’s something about the lighting and those rich wood tones that just works.
The rooms here are spacious, and I’m talking genuinely spacious, not that “spacious for Orlando” thing you usually get. Floor-to-ceiling windows give you either golf course views or glimpses of the pools (there are three, by the way). What I loved was the marble bathroom – the soaking tub actually fits a normal-sized human being, which is rarer than you’d think. Now, let’s talk about the hotel restaurant situation because there are several options, but Primo really stands out with its farm-to-table approach. The Sunday brunch there? Worth every penny, though you’ll want to book ahead, especially during peak season. The spa is where this place really shines – the Ritz-Carlton Spa (they share it with the neighboring Ritz) feels like a complete escape, with treatments that’ll make you forget you’re in theme park central.
Parking is complimentary, which is honestly refreshing in Orlando where resorts love to nickel and dime you. The staff here has this genuine warmth – not that scripted Disney-esque cheerfulness, but actual helpfulness. I noticed they remember your name after the first interaction, which makes a difference during a longer stay. The pools get busy around 11 AM (families with kids), but early mornings are pretty peaceful if you want to actually swim laps. One minor thing – the resort is a bit isolated from International Drive’s restaurants and attractions, so you’ll either be taking their shuttle or driving if you want to explore beyond the property. But honestly? That isolation is part of the charm. The Shingle Creek Golf Club right there is gorgeous, even if you’re just walking the paths, and you’ll spot herons and other wildlife throughout the property. Summer evenings, you can hear the distant sounds of the theme parks’ fireworks, which is kind of magical when you’re lounging by the pool with a drink. This isn’t your typical Orlando resort experience – it’s more refined, more relaxed, and definitely worth the splurge if you want luxury without the mouse ears.
