La Vista Daisetsuzan Overview
You know what hits you first at La Vista Daisetsuzan? The silence. I mean, sure, you expect mountain hotels to be quiet, but this place sits in Asahidake Onsen where the only sounds are bubbling hot springs and maybe the occasional rustle of snow monkeys in the trees (yes, they actually wander through the area sometimes). It’s about as far from Sapporo’s bustle as you can get while still having proper amenities – roughly two hours by car through some genuinely gorgeous mountain roads that’ll have you pulling over for photos every ten minutes.
The hotel itself has this understated elegance that feels very Hokkaido, if that makes sense. Nothing flashy or over-the-top, just clean lines and lots of wood that smells faintly of cedar when you first walk in. The onsen here is honestly the main event – they’ve got both indoor and outdoor baths with water that’s genuinely therapeutic, not just hot and relaxing. I actually talked to a regular guest (elderly Japanese gentleman who comes every winter) and he swears the mineral content here helps his arthritis better than the more famous spots down south. The outdoor bath in winter is something else entirely – soaking in 40-degree water while snow falls on your head and you’re staring up at Mount Asahidake. There’s this moment around sunset when the mountain turns pink and you feel like you’re in some kind of postcard, except it’s real and you’re actually living it.
What I really appreciate is how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Parking is free and covered (crucial in winter when you might get dumped on overnight), the staff actually speaks decent English without that overly formal hotel politeness that can feel exhausting, and they’ve got this little shop with local products that aren’t marked up ridiculously. The rooms are… well, they’re comfortable hotel rooms, nothing revolutionary, but the views are spectacular if you get one facing the mountain. Fair warning though – this isn’t a budget spot, and if you’re looking for nightlife or shopping, you’re about 30 minutes from anything resembling a town center. But honestly, that’s kind of the point. You come here to disconnect, soak in natural hot springs, maybe do some hiking in summer or skiing in winter, and just breathe clean mountain air for a few days. The 8.8 rating feels right – it’s not perfect (the restaurant menu could use more variety, and wifi can be spotty), but it does exactly what it promises really, really well.
Guest Reviews
The dinner was absolutely amazing and way too much food for anyone but a sumo wrestler to eat. Very high quality it was great.
What could be improved: the property is a little old but it was fine
Amazing stay, definitely need to drive to get to this location but it's worth your getaway. We arrived right at the start of the snow storm, and it makes it more magical. Great food selection, amazing service, there's massage service available...
Location, onsen and staff were amazing. Food was incredible.
What could be improved: We were here for skiing - it would be nice to have boot warmers in the ski room.
The ambience. The friendly staff and the excellent food and services
What could be improved: location not very convenient for traveling to other areas. Facade is dirty and looks aged
Great onsen, lovely location, food good
What could be improved: Low hanging lights meant my husband hit his head often.
Private onsens, fabulous dinners and delicious buffet breakfast
What could be improved: Pretty small room for 2 people

What could be improved: Nothing
We have so many allergies for the foods and you handled so well to serve us, especially French restaurant. We enjoyed the dinner on that night. What could be improved: Talking about the allergy Japanese restaurant wasn’t great. We needed open minded...
Excellent meal courses with outstanding service. English support was available where needed. Communal hot springs facilities were top-notch and private hot springs were excellent as well. What could be improved: Breakfast time was half an hour too...
