Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first heard about a resort on Divar Island – I mean, most people stick to the beach strips in North Goa, right? But the Mercure Devaaya turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The ferry ride over from Old Goa is actually part of the charm (though you’ll want to check the timing – they’re pretty regular but not exactly frequent). Once you’re on the island, it’s like stepping into a different version of Goa entirely.

The resort itself sits beautifully along the Mandovi River, and I’ve got to say, watching the sunset from their riverside area beats any crowded beach scene. The rooms are spacious – not just “hotel spacious” but actually roomy enough that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every time you move around. What really got me was the attention to detail in the Ayurvedic spa; they’re serious about wellness here, not just throwing around buzzwords. The treatments feel authentic, and the therapists actually know what they’re doing. The pool area can get busy during peak season (December through February, you know how it is), but even then, there are plenty of quiet corners to escape to. The restaurant serves decent Goan food – their fish curry is solid, though I’d still recommend venturing into Panjim for dinner at least once during your stay.

You know what really sets this place apart though? The location gives you the best of both worlds. You’re away from the tourist chaos but still close enough to Old Goa’s churches (about 15 minutes by taxi once you’re back on the mainland) and Panjim’s Latin Quarter. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there – check-in was smooth, and they’re helpful without being pushy about spa treatments or excursions. Fair warning: if you’re the type who needs to be walking distance from nightlife and shopping, this might feel too secluded. But if you want to actually relax and maybe do some gentle exploring during the day, it’s pretty ideal. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect (the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and breakfast gets repetitive after a few days), but it delivers on what it promises. I’d definitely go back, especially during monsoon season when the island gets even more lush and peaceful.
