The owners clearly put thought into this – it’s not some afterthought addition but a proper setup with quality wood and stones that actually hold heat properly. After spending days exploring the nearby Sagami Lake area or hiking around Tsukui, slipping into that sauna around sunset became my daily ritual. The whole property feels like someone’s well-loved vacation home rather than a sterile hotel, which I guess makes sense given the villa setup.

What really won me over was the location’s sweet spot between convenience and tranquility. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the lake, and there’s this little family-run soba shop on the corner of the main road that the locals frequent – no English menu, but the owner’s daughter helped me order the best tempura udon I had in Japan. The train connections aren’t terrible either; you can reach Hashimoto Station without too much hassle, which opens up day trips to Tokyo or deeper into the mountains. Parking was never an issue (something you definitely can’t say about coastal hotels), and the neighborhood stays refreshingly quiet even on weekends. I actually found myself looking forward to coming “home” each evening, which – let’s be honest – doesn’t happen at every place you book. The whole experience felt less like checking off a tourist destination and more like temporarily living somewhere beautiful.
