Pearl Star Hotel ATAMI Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Atami over the years, but Pearl Star Hotel honestly caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you walk into a place and immediately think “okay, this is going to be good”? That’s exactly what happened here. The moment you step through those doors, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details, from the way the lobby smells faintly of hinoki cypress to how the staff somehow manages to be attentive without hovering.
What really sets this place apart is its position in Higashikaigancho – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the beach, but more importantly, you’re right in the sweet spot where you can easily hit up the old-school ryokan district without dealing with the crowds that pile into the main tourist areas. I actually love that you can walk to Kiunkaku (that famous red building everyone photographs) in about ten minutes, but when you come back to Pearl Star, it feels like you’ve escaped into this quiet pocket of sophistication. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star – spacious, impeccably clean, with those floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the coastline perfectly. But honestly, it’s the little things that got me: the bathroom amenities that don’t feel cheap, the way the air conditioning actually works without sounding like a jet engine, and how the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand.
The real test of any Atami hotel is how it handles the weekend rush (because let’s be real, this town gets absolutely packed), and Pearl Star manages to maintain this calm, almost zen-like atmosphere even when the streets outside are buzzing with Tokyo day-trippers. I stayed during cherry blossom season – probably the worst time for crowds – and the hotel felt like a sanctuary. The restaurant situation is solid too, though I’d still recommend venturing out to try some of the local spots down near the station. Parking was surprisingly hassle-free, which anyone who’s driven to Atami will appreciate, and the front desk actually gave useful recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. I mean, where else would someone tell you the best time to hit the public baths to avoid crowds? That 9.4 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – you can feel it in everything from the thread count of the sheets to the way they handle check-out. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay, even when you know you probably shouldn’t.
Guest Reviews
The room we stayed in has a private onsen. It was beautiful and very peaceful to relax in it. I love this hotel. Wished my travel schedule would’ve allowed me to stay longer. The staff are all super nice and attentive. What could be improved:...
Great location, lovely views of the beachfront, really enjoyed the private balcony onsen, super breakfast offerings.
What could be improved: The room's lighting system was inconvenient to use at night (controlled via a tablet).
Private onsen in the room was great. Very clean and well maintained. Restaurant food was excellent. Right next to the beach, very convenient!
Location is very good. Lots of options for buffet Breakfast. Room with open onsen is a good choice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Drinks in the fridge are all free of charge which is a happy surprise! Hotel also provides welcome drinks until around...
