Pullman Auckland Hotel & Apartments Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into the Pullman Auckland – I mean, it’s right in the thick of things on Princes Street, and sometimes those central locations can feel a bit generic. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this sleek, contemporary vibe that feels distinctly Auckland without trying too hard, and you know what really struck me? The staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff about the city, not just the rehearsed tourist spots.
The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the waterfront and all those ferry terminals, which means Waiheke Island day trips are ridiculously easy to pull off. Plus, you can walk to the Sky Tower (though honestly, who needs to when you’ve got decent harbor views from the upper floors here). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so central. The rooms are properly soundproofed, which is clutch because Princes Street can get a bit lively on weekend nights. The apartments are genuinely spacious too – I’m talking actual kitchens with full-sized fridges, not those sad little hotel kitchenettes. Perfect if you want to grab some fresh stuff from the weekend markets down at Britomart.
The thing that really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you don’t always get, even at five-star places. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and they’ve got proper blackout curtains – essential when you’re dealing with jet lag. The fitness center is actually worth using, not just for show, and the pool area feels like a genuine escape from the city buzz below. Parking is valet only, which some people grumble about, but honestly it’s worth it given how impossible street parking is in this part of town. Check-in was smooth as anything, and they had local restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps – they pointed me toward a fantastic little spot in nearby Ponsonby that I never would’ve found otherwise. At an 8.4 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine luxury without the pretentious attitude that sometimes comes with it.
