Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Udaipur, but Ramya Resort & Spa is honestly something else entirely. The moment you turn off Jaisamand Road onto that little lane – and I mean, it’s actually tucked away enough that your taxi driver might need to ask for directions – you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. The property sits in this incredibly peaceful pocket of Dakan Kotra that somehow feels miles away from the usual tourist chaos, even though you’re really not that far from the main attractions. I mean, you can still get to the City Palace area in about 20 minutes, but when you’re here, you’d never know it.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that perfect balance between luxury and authenticity. The spa – and honestly, this is coming from someone who’s usually skeptical about hotel spas – actually lives up to the hype. They use traditional Ayurvedic treatments, but not in that touristy, going-through-the-motions way. The therapists know their stuff, and you can tell they’ve been doing this for years. The rooms themselves are spacious (I stayed in one of the suites overlooking the gardens), and there’s this attention to detail that you notice in the little things – like how the bathroom fixtures actually work properly, or how the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine. You know what I loved? The fact that they have these beautiful jharokhas – those traditional Rajasthani balconies – but they’ve been designed so you actually want to sit in them, not just photograph them. I spent way more time than I expected just sitting there in the evenings with a cup of their excellent masala chai, watching the peacocks wander around the grounds.

The food situation is really solid too – their restaurant does both Rajasthani specialties and international dishes, and honestly, both are done well, which is rarer than you’d think. The dal baati churma was probably the best I had during my entire Rajasthan trip, and that’s saying something. Service-wise, the staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay memorable without being overly formal about it. Check-in was smooth, they helped arrange a driver for sightseeing without any of the usual commission drama, and when I mentioned I was interested in visiting some of the smaller lakes in the area, they actually gave me insider tips about timing and routes. The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some parts of the property, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a genuine retreat while still being well-appointed and professionally run, this is it.
