You know what struck me first about Residency Lake Resort & Spa? It’s actually tucked away in this tiny village called Gonawadi that most people have never heard of, about an hour’s drive from Pune through some seriously winding hill roads. I mean, you’re basically heading into Mulshi territory where the locals are still more likely to wave at passing cars than ignore you – which honestly feels pretty refreshing after dealing with city crowds.

The resort itself sits right on the edge of one of those smaller lakes that feed into the main Mulshi dam, and while it’s officially a 3-star property, they’ve clearly put effort into making the most of that lakefront setting. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but you’ll sleep well and the AC actually works properly (trust me, I’ve stayed at places where that’s not a given). What really gets me is how quiet it becomes after sunset. Like, genuinely quiet. No traffic, no construction noise, just water lapping and maybe some birds if you’re up early enough. The spa treatments are decent too, though I’d recommend booking ahead during weekends when folks from Mumbai and Pune descend on the area.

Here’s the thing about this place that the photos don’t really capture – it’s got this laid-back, almost family-run feel even though it’s clearly a proper resort operation. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, and they know the area well enough to give you real recommendations, not just tourist trap suggestions. If you’re driving up from Pune, take the Paud-Mulshi road route instead of going through Lonavala – it’s more scenic and you’ll hit way less traffic, especially during monsoon season when everyone’s heading to the usual hill stations. The resort’s restaurant serves solid Maharashtrian food alongside the standard Indian-Chinese stuff, and their fish curry is surprisingly good for a place that’s not exactly coastal. Parking’s never an issue, check-in is smooth, and honestly, for a 7.7 rating, I think they’re underselling themselves a bit. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s exactly the kind of place where you can actually unwind without worrying about whether you’re missing out on something better down the road.
