The rooms themselves are spacious in a way that feels luxurious without being wasteful – high ceilings, actual windows you want to look out of, and honestly the best shower pressure I’ve had at any hotel in recent memory. They’ve got this thing where they don’t blast you with air conditioning but instead work with the natural breezes, which sounds gimmicky but actually works really well most of the year.

I stayed during wildfire season (because, you know, California), and while there was some haze in the distance, the staff was completely on top of air quality updates and had backup plans ready. That’s the kind of preparedness that comes from actually operating in this environment, not just dropping a hotel anywhere. Sure, you’re trading convenience for character – there’s no Starbucks around the corner, and you’ll want to stock up on snacks before you arrive – but if you’re looking to decompress from the San Diego hustle without driving all the way to the desert, this spot delivers. It’s particularly great if you’re planning to explore wine country around Ramona or heading up to Julian for apple season.
