HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places along the Maine coast, and Spruce Point Inn honestly surprised me in the best way. You know how some hotels feel like they’re trying too hard to be fancy? This isn’t one of those. It sits right on this gorgeous chunk of waterfront in Boothbay Harbor – and I mean actually ON the water, not like three blocks away where you need binoculars to see it. The property sprawls across 57 acres, so you’ve got plenty of room to wander without bumping into other guests every five minutes.

What really got me was how they’ve kept that old Maine lodge feeling without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The main inn has this rambling, comfortable vibe – creaky floors in the good way, windows that actually open (thank god), and you can hear the water from pretty much everywhere. The spa is tucked into the woods, and honestly, after driving up Route 27 through all that tourist traffic in July, sinking into one of their treatment rooms felt like pure magic. The pool area overlooks Grandview Point, and if you time it right around 6 PM, the light hitting the water is just… well, you’ll want your camera ready. Parking is easy enough – they’ve got plenty of spots, though in peak summer you might want to grab yours early if you’re planning day trips to Pemaquid or over to Ocean Point.

Here’s the thing about Boothbay Harbor that a lot of visitors miss – it gets absolutely packed during the day when all the tour buses roll in, but by evening it settles into this perfect coastal rhythm. Spruce Point capitalizes on that beautifully. You can walk down to the harbor (maybe 10 minutes through town) for lunch at one of the lobster shacks, then retreat back to the resort when things get crazy. The staff actually knows the area – like, really knows it. They pointed me toward this little hiking trail behind the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens that I never would’ve found otherwise. Room-wise, I stayed in one of the newer buildings (there are several scattered around the property), and while it wasn’t huge, the view made up for everything. You wake up to sailboats and pine trees, which is pretty much the Maine experience in a nutshell. The restaurant on-site is solid – not mind-blowing, but you’re not going to leave hungry or disappointed. I mean, when you’re sitting on that deck watching the lobster boats head out in the morning, even average food tastes pretty great.

We had a beautiful, spacious room, with a small over for the night when it was already turning cold. The restaurant was fine, we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. Once, they helped us out even thought the restaurant was already closed! To walk down the coast towards the small haven town was a wonderfull experience. Thank you so much!

It was a property that is so rich in tradition. I could see the families enjoying this resort in the 50’s and now. Such a unique experience. We loved the grounds, pool, restaurants and everything about it.
