You know what struck me first about The Anantmaya Resort? It’s how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between luxury and actually feeling connected to Manali. I mean, sure, it’s a 5-star place on Naggar Road, but when you’re sitting on their terrace with the Beas Valley stretched out below you, it doesn’t feel stuffy or removed from everything that makes this area special. The location in Prini is honestly perfect – you’re close enough to Old Manali that you can walk down for dinner (though it’s a bit of a climb back up), but far enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos of Mall Road traffic keeping you up at night.

The resort itself has this interesting vibe where you can tell they’ve put real thought into the details. The rooms are spacious – actually spacious, not just “spacious for India” – and most have these huge windows that frame the mountains like living paintings. I stayed there in early October and woke up to fresh snow on the peaks, which the staff mentioned happens pretty regularly once the season starts turning. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you’re up high enough that the only sounds are maybe some distant temple bells from the village below and the occasional rustle of deodar trees. The spa is legitimately good too, not just a fancy room with massage tables – they use local herbs and oils, and honestly, after a day of trekking around Solang or dealing with the winding roads to get here, it’s exactly what you need.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t one of those places where you feel trapped on the property. The staff actually knows the area and can point you toward the good local spots, not just the touristy ones. They sent me to this tiny dhaba in Vashisht that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to see some traditional Kullu architecture, they connected me with a guide who took me through villages most tourists never see. The 8.7 rating makes sense because while everything works well and the service is solid, it’s not trying to be something it’s not. You’ll get excellent food (the local trout is fantastic), comfortable beds, and that mountain air that makes you sleep better than you have in months. Just know that if you’re coming during peak season – May through June or around Dussehra – you’ll want to book way ahead, and the roads can get pretty congested. But honestly, once you’re settled in with a cup of kahwa watching the sunset paint the snow peaks pink, none of that really matters.
